This position is critical to the success of a thriving Dining Services Operation at the University of Minnesota Duluth. We feed thousands of students and guests daily and this role is vital in ensuring that our chefs, cooks, servers, cashiers, and student workers have everything they need to nourish, excite, and comfort our community each and every day. Orders are received every day, inventoried, distributed, and placed again to come full circle.

Overview of the Position

  • Full-time, Regular
  • The Promotional Priority Period for current Teamster applicants: 2/4/2026 - 2/11/2026.
  • The pay range is $22.39 - $29.10 per hour.
  • The typical schedule is a 12 month, 40 hour per week position.
  • This position is represented by the Teamsters Bargaining Unit.
  • The schedule is based on business needs and awarded by seniority
  • There may be work reduction or a change in hours during breaks, you will get a 30-day notice in those events
  • Benefits-eligible=health, dental, short-term, long-term, flex spending, etc.
  • Regent Scholarship=free tuition for a first degree, discounted schooling for additional degrees, or grad school
  • The successful completion of a background check is required. However, criminal convictions do not automatically disqualify finalists from employment.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
50% Ordering, Receiving, and Storage

  • Collect requisitions and place orders with purveyors.
  • Receives orders with Purchase Order and reconciles to invoice and discusses discrepancies with manager
  • Inspect shipments for quality, check temperatures and expiration dates as well as damaged packaging.
  • Stores product in assigned area and rotates using FIFO (First In, First Out) method
  • Uses independent judgment to identify poor, unacceptable products or backorders during delivery or in storage.
  • Decants product and discards packaging.
  • Maintains cleanliness and discards packaging.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of coolers, freezers, storage areas, and loading dock
  • Participates in inventory process as assigned
  • Work with the MBS inventory management system for receiving related functions.
  • Maintains temperature logs daily
  • Follows proper procedures and labeling when thawing meat products
  • Enters and maintains information regarding work orders, material, and supply requests, inventory, vendor or product information, and related materials via a paper copy on the computer as assigned
  • Assists in taking periodic physical inventories of stock as assigned
  • Completes daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning as assigned

10% Operational Excellence

  • Ensures compliance with health and food safety standards and regulations.
  • Collaborates with the entire Dining Team to ensure the completion of proactive and responsive food ordering, receiving, waste reduction, product management.

30% Delivery

  • Coordinate and make deliveries to campus departments.
  • Suggests and creates efficiencies for deliveries and inventory management.
  • Collaborates well with other departments, managers, team members on campus and in Dining Services. Listens and communicates well and models warm professionalism to team members.

10% Other Duties as Assigned

  • Cover for the lead worker as needed.
  • Organize and maintain the receiving area.
  • Organize and maintain the fixture area in the receiving and the tunnel area.
  • Incumbents may serve as lead workers (e.g. assign, schedule, direct work) of University staff but are not PELRA supervisors. Incumbents may supervise student employees.
  • Assists in dish room as assigned
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently
  • Reads, writes, understands and communicates in English
  • Must be able to stand up to 8 hours at a time
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform simple math calculations
  • Must have at least 6 months of relevant experience in warehousing, store keeping or inventory methods
  • Proficiency using computer programs for inventory and ordering procedures
  • Knowledge of stockroom and stock control items, methods and procedures, inventory procedures, inventory record maintenance, common clerical procedures, standard abbreviations used in shipping and designating weights and measures as required

Pay Range: $22.39 - $29.10; depending on education/qualifications/experience
