Job Description

The Role

The primary purpose of this position is to secure the right product, at the right price, from the right source, at the right time to achieve the sales and financial goals of assigned categories and enable the Company to achieve budget. You will be responsible for the procurement of product in the Fairbanks division. This includes product order accuracy, stock levels, and management of product lines. Coordinating procurement & inventory activities with other staff members under the direction of the General and Assistant General Manager to ensure a well-coordinated product line program offered to customers. Must be highly flexible to service needs and have an ability to work in a fast pace, closely configured work environment.

Essential Responsibilities Include, but Not Limited To:

All employees are responsible for food safety and are expected to notify the appropriate manager, supervisor, or key personnel if they witness any compromise to food safety or food quality.

  • Continually identify and determine optimum sources of supply
  • Manage service levels and inventory of assigned categories
  • Make purchasing decisions under the direction of the General Management
  • Be responsible for procuring designated quality and quantity
  • Maintain Minimize shrinkage/spoilage of the broadline grocery items
  • Manage marketing/promotional funds, rebates, slotting fees and payment terms.
  • Ensure that product recalls are completed
  • Support established logistical procedures to facilitate product arrival
  • Communicate effectively to all department supervisors
  • Seek opportunity/spot buys
  • Maintain on hands of regularly stocked broadline grocery items
  • Monitor and report items/categories/business trends of the broadline grocery items
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, technology and food safety
  • Maintain awareness of Company's marketing strategies and competitive activity
  • Some travel required: vendor and marketing conventions
Qualifications
  • Five (5) years broadline grocery buying experience or experience working in broadline grocery distribution
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Strong Math & Writing skills required to quickly multiply & add cases/pallets & calculate product cost, market, & margin
  • Multiple task management
  • Be able to set priorities, meet deadlines, and able to accomplish team objectives
  • Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills with computer competency, including Excel, Word, & Outlook
  • Strong commodities knowledge, including dry goods, meat, and other broadline product lines
  • Physical requirements: Walking through the warehouse to check product inventory & quality
  • Ability to observe and follow proper safety procedures, and a willingness to report potentially unsafe conditions
