Department:Public Works Department Organizational Unit:Roadway and Bridge Position Type:Permanent Full Time/Part Time:Full Time Open Until Filled. $27.40 to $30.14 hourly. Actual salary negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Central Area/Merritt Island. Work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Performs experienced professional work developing, coordinating, and delivering comprehensive commercial driver's license (CDL) and safety training programs for Public Works employees across multiple programs including Road & Bridge, Traffic, Engineering, Survey, Facilities Construction, and Facilities Maintenance. Work includes providing both classroom and hands-on instruction, enhancing operational safety, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening employee skills in the operation of CDL-classified vehicles, equipment, and related safety practices. REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or its equivalent, as required by the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) PLUS six (6) years of experience operating CDL-required vehicles PLUS two (2) years of training experience. Additional qualifying education and/or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Experience as a CDL instructor is preferred. Experience operating heavy equipment and/or working in public works, road and bridge maintenance and/or construction, a construction trade, or other similar field is preferred. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with no airbrake or fifth wheel restrictions, with no cancellations, suspensions, or revocations of the driving privilege for a minimum of three (3) years prior to employment and maintain said license during the term of employment. Must be able to successfully complete a criminal, a driver's license, and a personal background investigation, conducted by Brevard County and/or another agency, which meets the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) requirements to be certified as a CDL Trainer. In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
