Summary of Job Duties:The Training Corporal works under the supervision of the Training Sergeant. This position is responsible for all aspects of training and standards for patrol officers, security officers, and dispatchers. The Training Corporal will conduct interviews with potential applicants and then process background applications. This position will provide training as needed for the employees and staff at UAMS and assist with maintaining the Field Training Officer Programs. The Training Corporal will assist with quartermaster duties and will be responsible for the enforcement of traffic control, criminal laws, and parking regulations. This position is governed by the Law Enforcement Standards of Arkansas and UAMS Policies. Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED plus two (2) years of law enforcement experience.

  • Certified by the Arkansas Law Enforcement Standards Training Academy as a Police Officer

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

  • Must have a current and valid Arkansas driver's license.

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to pass a medical physical examination.

  • Able to pass a psychological examination.

  • Ability to walk 8 to 12 miles in an 8 to 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to climb stairwells.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or higher in any criminal justice-related field.

  • 3 or more years of law enforcement experience.

  • Certifications: Instructor Certification, Firearms Instructor, General Certificate.

  • Basic knowledge of computers.

  • Ability to communicate and maintain a good rapport with the campus population.

  • Engages in and maintains control of situations/persons through the use of minimal force needed in required situations.

Responsibilities:

  • Unlock buildings, offices, and/or vehicles when requested.

  • Assist stranded motorists or people when requested.

  • Quell patient, visitor, student, or employee disturbances.

  • Respond to a call reporting criminal activity.

  • Prepare incident reports on all pertinent situations.

  • Foot patrol inside the buildings.

  • Vehicle patrol in the outside areas of the campus, including off-site clinics.

  • Maintain a high visibility on campus to act as a deterrent against criminal, traffic, and parking violations.

  • Check on and monitor the security of all buildings on campus.

  • Provide assistance for anyone in need on campus.

  • Keep fire lanes clear and issue traffic and/or parking violations when required.

  • Perform traffic duties and maintain the flow of traffic during fire alarms, ambulance runs, and/or any other emergency situations.

  • Investigate accidents that occur on any UAMS property and process accident reports.

  • When required, obtain information and statements and collect evidence.

  • Make arrests when necessary.

  • Testify in court when directed.

  • Assist the investigator on major calls or fill in when the investigator is out.

  • Escort monies to proper locations to deter theft, robbery, or injury to the UAMS population.

  • Upon request, escort employees on campus to deter theft, robbery, or injury to the UAMS population.

  • When required, escort members of the campus population to their desired location.

  • Transport of Arkansas Mental Health Services patients to the Mental Health facilities.

  • Transport arrested individuals to jail if needed.

  • Escort and stand by PRI patients at the Arkansas Mental Health court.

  • Maintain files for Standards.

  • Train new hire patrol officers and security officers.

  • Coordinate and schedule department mandatory training.

  • Conduct background investigations on potential applicants as well as conduct interviews.

  • Conduct mandatory and necessary training for the department.

  • Issue uniforms and equipment.

  • Training employees and students in a variety of safety and response classes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
