This opportunity is onsite and full-time in Salt Lake City.

Internship Overview

Join the Municipal & Commercial Finance Division and work closely with the Director of Municipal and Commercial Finance and the division's leadership. You'll gain hands-on exposure to municipal and commercial finance and support process improvement initiatives across the department.

This role is ideal for students who are curious, analytical, and entrepreneurial. Comfortable thinking creatively while operating within regulatory and compliance frameworks.

What You'll Do
  • Assist with the execution and documentation of purchases of municipal bonds, loans, and leases directly from governmental issuers.
  • Support the team in identifying, structuring, and helping prepare to close municipal debt transactions (e.g., data gathering, comps, credit packages, timelines).
  • Conduct research and outreach support to municipal advisors, bond attorneys, trustees, and governmental associations to help source opportunities.
  • Partner with business leaders to map current-state processes, identify bottlenecks/waste, and document future state workflows.
  • Support the prioritization and execution of improvement initiatives with a specific focus on Asset Based Lending (ABL), Central Monitoring, factoring structure, and Nonprofit Finance.


Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Operations Management or related field.
  • Interest in Municipal and Commercial Finance
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency with Excel (vlookups, pivots, basic modeling)
  • Exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA or SHINGO concepts (coursework, student orgs, certifications) a plus
  • Knowledge of Power BI or MS PowerApps a plus
