Job Description: Thermal Safety Expert Huntsman is seeking a Thermal Safety Expert supporting the ADMAT Division located at the McIntosh Site. This position will report to the Site PD Manager.
Job Scope
The Thermal Safety Expert is primarily responsible for the accurate assessment and management of regional thermal safety (Reactive Chemistry) activities across the Americas. Although based at a single site, this role supports products and processes intended for multiple sites within the region and plays a critical role in New Product Introduction (NPI), manufacturing improvements, and process safety initiatives. The position operates with a high level of autonomy and requires strong expertise in PSM/EHS and thermal safety methodologies, while sharing knowledge and best practices across the global process development organization.
In summary, as the Thermal Safety Expert, you will:
Champion safe, efficient, and ethical manufacturing practices with a strong focus on EHS and PSM objectives, including a zero-harm mindset. Independently assess and manage regional thermal safety mandates, including short-term sub-projects and long-term business programs. Support New Product Introduction (NPI) through feasibility studies, process development, scale-up activities, and preparation of technical packages with full PSM/EHS considerations. Provide rapid and effective support for scaling processes from laboratory to production. Lead and execute mandates using state-of-the-art tools and methodologies to deliver safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions. Act as a process owner for projects transitioning results into production and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, Marketing, and Technology & Innovation. Support and potentially lead the Thermal Safety (Reactive Chemistry) Lab, ensuring reliable measurements, timely reporting, and continuous improvement of methodologies. Serve as a cross-regional focal point for thermal safety expertise, supporting other regional plants and harmonizing standards across sites. Contribute to the development of long-term regional and global strategies for thermal safety capability improvements.
Qualifications
You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates. The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (BSc/BS) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. 15+ years of experience in thermal analysis, chemical laboratory environments, or pilot lab/plant operations. Prior experience within chemical manufacturing, preferably in a multinational industrial company. Solid working knowledge of PSM and EHS requirements within a manufacturing or R&D environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge or hands-on experience with thermal safety instruments such as DSC, RC1, ARC, and TAM. Experience leading or supporting thermal safety or reactive chemistry laboratories. Knowledge of organic, polymeric, and epoxy chemistry. Familiarity with reaction kinetics, modeling, and statistical analysis methodologies. Previous involvement in global or cross-regional Centers of Excellence initiatives.
Working Environment
Work is primarily conducted in laboratory, pilot plant, and manufacturing environments. This position may involve working with materials regulated under RCRA, requiring compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and waste management procedures. Appropriate training (computer-based, classroom, and/or on-the-job) will be provided prior to involvement with regulated materials. Occasional travel may be required to support regional sites and participate in external conferences or collaboration activities.
