Job Summary

The occasional Senior Scientist/Writer provides specialized research and writing support to a faculty member in the development of external grant proposals. This position supports proposal planning, background research, drafting and editing of proposal components, and ensuring compliance with sponsor guidelines and institutional policies. The role requires strong analytical, organizational, and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Essential Job Duties
  • Conduct literature reviews and targeted research to support proposal development and project design.
  • Identify funding opportunities and summarize sponsor requirements.
  • Assist in drafting, editing, formatting, and proofreading grant proposal narratives and supporting documentation.
  • Organize references, data sources, and supporting materials in accordance with institutional and sponsor guidelines.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely completion of assigned deliverables.
  • Maintain confidential and sensitive information in compliance with institutional policies.
  • Communicate effectively with faculty supervisor regarding progress, timelines, and priorities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication and editing skills.
  • Ability to conduct independent research and synthesize information.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate coursework or degree in a relevant field.
  • Prior experience in academic research, grant writing, or proposal development.
  • Familiarity with citation management tools and research databases.
  • Experience working in higher education or research environments.

Hiring Range

$40.00 to $49.25 per hour

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
