Job Description:

Microchip Technology Inc. is a leading provider of embedded control applications. Our product portfolio comprises general purpose and specialized 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit microcontrollers, 32-bit microprocessors, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) products, a broad spectrum of high-performance linear, mixed-signal, power management, thermal management, radio frequency (RF), timing, safety, security, wired connectivity and wireless connectivity devices, as well as serial Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM), Serial Flash memories, Parallel Flash memories, and serial Static Random Access Memory (SRAM). We also license Flash-IP solutions that are incorporated in a broad range of products.

The Microchip Frequency and Timing Systems (FTS) business unit is a world leader in precise time solutions and sets the world's standard for time. Our work distributes and applies precise time for the communications, aerospace/defense, IT infrastructure, and metrology industries. FTS is expanding with new contracts in the areas of digital signal processing, satellite communications, airborne timing, and navigation systems. Our Commercial Systems group is seeking asummer intern to work within the Clock Algorithm Engineering group. This position is a fit for someone that enjoys technical achievement, cooperative research, never ending chances to learn, and a friendly team environment. You will participate in a wide variety of projects.The opportunity requires the candidate to be a self-motivated person who is proactive and goal oriented. Job Functions

  • Engineer embedded systems and algorithms for time, position, and RF communications using the systems engineering methodology of requirements definition, design, implementation, verification, and validation of the system

  • Develop automation scripts and processes to improve engineering efficiency

  • Collaborate with hardware, software, FPGA, and mechanical engineers to develop solutions that meet or exceed customers' requirements

  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Quality Engineers to introduce and release new products

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a Bachelors, Masters, or Doctoral degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited university

  • Basic knowledge in digital signal processing, control system design, linear system analysis, or statistical classification algorithms

  • Experience with simulation, data processing, and analysis using Python and/or MATLAB

  • Familiarity with digital test equipment (e.g., oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, multi-meter)

  • Ability to work 40 hours a week during the summer in office

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with precise timing applications and components including oscillators, time measurement circuits, and GPS receivers

  • Ability to efficiently operate in a Linux/Unix environment

  • Basic knowledge of radiofrequency communications technology
