Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday to the preferred Alma Service Center. However, this position may be assigned to any gas Consumers Energy service center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES The Senior Corrosion Technician performs internal and/or external corrosion testing and evaluation. Responsibilities include cathodic protection system testing and evaluation, pipetosoil testing, troubleshooting cathodic protection systems, installation of UT and/or corrosion coupon sensors, and determination of appropriate remedial measures. The incumbent will test cathodic protection adequacy, perform internal corrosion testing and sampling, conduct inhole pipe inspections, determine and execute corrective actions, oversee or perform repairs, and document remedial actions and outcomes. This role is also responsible for entering and maintaining complex data within corrosion databases and GIS systems. Documentation includes mapping, communicating necessary repairs, and recording results for future reference within the System Integrity program and/or the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC). This role will primarily support emerging technologies and application enhancements to optimize operational processes within the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP - Corrosion Management). While corrosion knowledge is critical, the primary focus is on applying that expertise to enable digital innovation through platforms such as PCS, GIS, Microsoft Power Platform, and SAP. Responsibilities include project validation, regulatory support, system troubleshooting, and vendor coordination-ensuring regulatory compliance while minimizing waste and manual effort through scalable automation and system integration. PHYSICAL DEMANDS This role is regulated under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). Employees in this position perform functions related to pipeline operations, maintenance, or emergency response and are therefore subject to random drug testing in accordance with PHMSA regulations.
