Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation's skies safe and connected.

We're looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world's most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won't just support the mission - you'll define it.

Join a mission-critical team safeguarding the safety, security, and integrity of U.S. air travel. Peraton is seeking a Technical Project Manager with strong surveillance and monitoring expertise to lead the planning and execution of complex engineering and technology programs supporting the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

In this role, you will oversee surveillance-driven, safety-critical systems-where real-time visibility, risk detection, performance monitoring, and regulatory compliance are non-negotiable. You will translate complex technical and system-of-systems requirements into executable project plans, while maintaining continuous oversight of scope, cost, schedule, and operational risk. Success in this role requires a leader who is proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in high-visibility, compliance-heavy environments.

You will serve as the central point of coordination across engineering, IT, and program stakeholders, ensuring projects meet FAA standards, mission objectives, and surveillance performance expectations throughout the lifecycle.

In This Role, You Will:

Lead the planning, execution, and continuous oversight of FAA technical projects supporting surveillance, monitoring, and safety-critical operations.

  • Develop and maintain integrated project schedules, budgets, risk registers, and performance baselines with an emphasis on visibility and early risk detection.

  • Act as the primary interface between technical teams, program leadership, and FAA stakeholders, ensuring transparent reporting and traceability of project status.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams spanning software, hardware, networks, systems engineering, and infrastructure.

  • Apply structured project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid) to manage scope, deliverables, and timelines in regulated environments.

  • Prepare and deliver data-driven status reports, dashboards, and technical briefings to FAA leadership.

  • Identify, track, and mitigate technical, operational, and compliance risks affecting surveillance and safety systems.

  • Ensure project execution aligns with FAA AMS, FAR, and internal quality and governance standards.

  • Oversee configuration management, change control, and documentation to maintain system integrity and audit readiness.

  • Monitor vendor performance, validate technical deliverables, and ensure contract and SOW alignment.

  • Support requirements analysis, test planning, readiness reviews, and deployment of new or enhanced surveillance capabilities.

  • Drive continuous improvement through process standardization, performance metrics, and lessons learned.

Why This Role Matters

The FAA's modernization and mission success depend on efficient execution of highly technical projects that enhance the safety, capacity, and reliability of the National Airspace System (NAS). As a Technical Project Manager, your leadership ensures that technical teams operate cohesively, risks are mitigated early, and project outcomes directly support the FAA's strategic initiatives in aviation safety, cybersecurity, and infrastructure advancement. Your ability to balance engineering precision with operational efficiency will help keep U.S. aviation systems safe, modern, and globally competitive.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • 12+ years of experience in project management or technical program leadership.

  • Proven success managing technical, engineering, or IT infrastructure projects with high visibility and risk sensitivity.

  • Strong command of project controls, risk management, performance monitoring, and earned value analysis.

  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams in regulated or safety-critical environments.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Jira, Confluence, or similar tools for tracking, reporting, and surveillance of project performance.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience managing vendors, technical deliverables, and contractual requirements.

  • Ability to conduct technical reviews, validation activities, and post-implementation assessments.

  • Analytical, metrics-driven mindset focused on quality, compliance, and operational readiness.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting FAA programs, NAS systems, or aviation surveillance platforms.

  • Degree in Engineering Management, Systems Engineering, or Business Administration (MBA).

  • PMP, PMI-ACP, or similar project management certification.

  • Experience with FAA NextGen, air traffic management, or federal surveillance modernization initiatives.

  • Familiarity with Agile and environments supporting integrated engineering programs.

  • Background in cybersecurity compliance, infrastructure monitoring, or safety-critical systems.
