| Position Summary |
The Assistant Director assumes a critical role in the research enterprise. The primary responsibility is to ensure that all human subject research conducted under the auspices of the
HRPP is carried out in such a manner that the rights and welfare of participants in research studies are protected and that the institution complies with state, local, and federal regulations, while ensuring efficient and high-quality performance. Specific responsibilities will include reporting to and working with the Director in overseeing the daily operations of the
HRPP and serving as a liaison between IRBs and the research teams.

- Expert knowledge of regulations concerning human research protections (Title 45 Code of Federal Regulations Part 46 and 21 CFR 50 and 56).
- Proven leadership skills, including implementing broad policy recommendations.
- Direct experience with the principles and procedures for staff recruitment, selection, training, and performance management within a complex academic or medical research framework.
- Demonstrated ability to work dependably and cooperatively within a team and to establish and maintain effective and professional interpersonal relationships.
- Strong active listening skills, problem sensitivity and solving skills, superior customer service orientation, and attention to detail.
- Strong deductive reasoning, analytical and critical thinking, and active learning skills.
- Strong reading comprehension, written and oral expression, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality standards.

Sitting for lengthy periods of time using a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Position is indoors on the main

- Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and professional development of office staff.
- Ensure operational continuity by providing leadership and coverage during vacancies or the Director's absences.

- Conduct preliminary review of human research projects for completeness, accuracy, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct IRB Expedited review and provide Exempt research determinations.
- Determine whether a proposed activity meets regulatory and policy definitions of research involving human subjects.
- Provide support and oversight for staff tasked with supporting UGA's IRB convened meetings, including agenda development, transcription, and accurate documentation of meeting minutes.
- Attend IRB meetings as the regulatory expert to support the IRB Chair and members.
