Overview
The School of Graduate Studies at Utah State University invites applications for a Graduate Teaching and Professional Development Specialist. This position plays a central role in preparing graduate students for excellence in teaching, supporting graduate student academic and professional success, and advancing graduate and faculty professional development related to teaching and learning.

The successful candidate will design, teach, and coordinate required Graduate Teaching Training courses for graduate graders, teaching assistants, and instructors, provide academic skills development and support for graduate students (e.g. writing for success, time management, professional communication), and contribute to professional development initiatives for faculty aligned with best practices in higher education. This position requires demonstrated expertise in instruction, course design, and university-level professional development, grounded in the scholarship of learning and instructional design.

Responsibilities
  • Instructs and coordinates required graduate teaching training for graduate graders, teaching assistants, and instructors.
  • Designs, develops, and updates curriculum using instructional design principles and evidence-based pedagogy.
  • Delivers graduate student academic and professional success programming (e.g., planning, writing, time management, communication, mentorship). Will perform surveys to determine student requests and professional development needs at USU.
  • Supports graduate professional development related to teaching effectiveness, instructional design, and inclusive pedagogy.
  • Assesses program outcomes and participates in continuous program improvement.
  • Collaborates with academic units and campus partners to support teaching and learning initiatives.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, higher education, or a closely related field.
  • Experience with university-level instruction and curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design and the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in relevant field.
  • Experience providing graduate teacher training or faculty professional development.
  • Experience with learning management systems (e.g., Canvas) and educational technologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices and pedagogy.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to design, deliver, and assess professional training programs.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across units.

Employee generally works indoors and is protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
