Overview

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Full-Time Regular (FTR)

LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN

SALARY RANGE: $27.01 - $37.58 per hour

PURPOSE:
Instrument Technician will provide support to the Training and Development Specialist 2 in preparing and delivering laboratory exercises for the Professional Training Programs (PTP). Duties will include equipment preparation, calibration, repair, and maintenance, as well as the use, control, and inventory of radioactive sources.



Responsibilities

    Assists with the preparation, delivery, and disassembly of laboratory exercises at the training facility in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Technical Training Center (TTC) in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
  • Uses machine and electronics shop equipment to prepare, calibrate, repair, and maintain an extensive inventory of radiation detection equipment.
  • Serves as property manager for PTP.
  • Works with non-exempt and exempt quantities of radioactive materials to perform activations and exposures.
  • Assists with the upkeep and operation of the large quantity of laboratory computers.


Qualifications

Associate's degree or vocational/technical school degree/certification in instrumentation or related field and 1-2 years of directly related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

  • Some travel to the NRC TTC (Chattanooga) on a quarterly basis, as well as some outdoor work is required.
  • Experience with instrumentation.
  • Experience with wiring and circuit assembly.
  • Experience with machine and electronics shop tools. Basic knowledge of machine shop procedures.
  • A basic knowledge of electrical circuits and DC power is necessary to troubleshoot detection equipment. Electrical circuit soldering and assembly.
  • Must have calibration and documentation skills.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
