Position Overview
This position is for a coordinator of the KU Bridge program. This program is an NIH-funded research training program that supports Haskell undergraduates in research and professional development and transferring to KU for a terminal degree in a bioscience field. The coordinator will be involved in all aspects of the program, including program events and activities, and developing the programming, direct trainee support, and program administration and operations.

Job Description
Direct trainee support (50%):
  • Providing assistance with recruiting new applicants
  • Onboard new applicants into the KU HR system and the NIH portal
  • Provide academic advising for trainees, including an understanding of degree requirements at KU and at Haskell
  • Provide support for the trainee research experiences: identifying a research track and mentor, navigating the research experience, and disseminating research results - including science communication and poster preparation
Program events and activities (25%):
  • Developing events and activities that align with the program goals and objectives.
  • Providing assistance with planning and scheduling program events and activities. This includes biannual program activities, monthly program meetings, weekly research conduct training, periodic social gatherings, and an annual poster symposium.
  • Disseminating information about program events and activities to the participants and broader community.
Program administration and operations (25%):
  • Tracking data from prior and current trainees and other program-related data.
  • Maintaining program website, tracking of program information and creating program materials.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School diploma or GED equivalency and five years of related experience OR Bachelor's plus one year of related experience.
  2. Direct experience with at least two of the above three duties over a 1-year period.
  3. Familiarity with KU and/or Haskell operations and organization, as evidenced by application materials.
  4. Sensitivity to the specific needs of the communities involved, as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Ability to work across different programs to coordinate activities and events, as evidenced by application materials.


Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience with planning events and activities, as evidenced by application materials.
  2. Previous experience that required interacting with a variety of people.
  3. Organizational skills, including the ability to independently identify the needed steps of a multi-step project and track their completion.
  4. Previous experience working within a team environment, as evidenced by application materials.
  5. Previous experience that required communicating among team members and outside the team with other groups.
  6. Experience or interest in working with undergraduates from Haskell and KU, as evidenced by application materials.
