Under the direction of and reporting to the Sr. Manager, Global Advanced Manufacturing Technology, leverage expertise in laser welding to deliver NPD roadmap project needs, and be technical resource for broadly across the business. This position works in a team environment and uses engineering expertise and abilities to contribute to the development and manufacturing of industry leading brushless motors, battery packs, battery cells, and other power tool applications. Specific duties include: Manufacturing Process Development:
Advanced experience laser welding equipment and process
Understanding of laser welding industry landscape, laser hardware, laser process development, in-process controls, and laser welding quality inspection
Develop innovative solutions; implement sustainable, robust and reliable complex manufacturing processes Strong analytical skills, knowledge and experience in process evaluation tools: Design of Experiments (DOE), PFMEA, DFMEA, statistical data analysis, risk analysis, flow layout and other related engineering tools Work with Platform Development, Advanced Development & New Product Development design engineers to evaluate and advise product design for optimized manufacturability Work with and lead development with equipment suppliers to deliver custom processing solutions to achieve goals and objectives Research and evaluate new manufacturing technologies and breakthrough processes to accelerate competitive manufacturing advantage Utilize prototyping methods to develop and prepare engineering samples for evaluation and testing
Perform a variety of calculation and software aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability and sustainability Provide multiple what-if scenarios to find best total cost solution with financial impacts with emphasis on delivery timelines
Project Management Skills:
Execute critical laser welding equipment and process development as cross-functional team member in new product development Provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and support their execution of laser welding solutions Excellent verbal and written communication to make formal presentations regarding project status to team and management Excellent interpersonal skills to work in a team environment and challenge status quo with respect to drive the best solutions for the business Support business as technical expert in laser welding with technical consultation on new designs, root cause analysis, and to execute strategic technology initiatives
Technical Leadership Skills:
Provide technical leadership to process owners at manufacturing sites to develop their technical capabilities in critical processes and technologies Create engineering standards and guidelines to aid in the smooth implementation of new processes and technologies by manufacturing sites & project teams Develop and drive global strategy for laser welding technologies
Other Requirements:
Ability to travel domestically and internationally for machine and/or concept evaluations
Ability to learn new technical material, and maintain position as technical expert in rapidly changing technological field Ability to be interactive "hands on" with each upcoming engineering project
Education and Experience Requirements:
B.S. Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Material, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering with a minimum of 6 years engineering experience required Enhanced specialty skills in laser welding & new process development Advanced computer knowledge and skills in MS Office, statistical analysis software, visualization software, simulation softwares, and others
