Position Title: People Analytics & Data Specialist
Position Classification: Regular, Exempt, Full-time, 40 hours/week
Reports to: Senior Director, Total Rewards Location: Employees in this role can work from our Boston, MA office, remotely within the U.S. or a hybrid of these two options

Position Overview
The People Analytics & Data Specialist is a new role responsible for defining and driving the implementation of processes for managing people-data requests, overseeing the collection and analysis of HR data, and transforming complex datasets into easy-to-understand reports and dashboards while ensuring the effective operation of HR systems and serving as a backup payroll resource. This role leads the development of workforce analytics, data visualization and analysis, data narrative strategies and stakeholder communications, and reporting mechanisms that inform organizational strategy, equity, and compliance.
In addition to analytics and systems stewardship, this role supports 401(k) administration and payroll tax oversight, partners closely with Payroll and HRIS Manager, and maintains the skills and knowledge required to step in as a fully capable payroll processor when necessary.
This role will also collaborate within and outside of our HR team to advance our strategic goals for data-driven decision making and systems optimization.
Key Responsibilities
People Analytics, Data Management, and Reporting(55%)
  • Play a crucial role in analyzing human resources data to drive strategic decision-making and optimize talent management practices, including development, maintenance, and enhancement of people analytics metrics, dashboards, and recurring reports (e.g., headcount, turnover, hiring, workforce composition, compensation trends, and more).
  • Establish and steward a centralized library of HR metrics, definitions, and reporting standards.
  • Conduct data analysis and visualization to support organizational understanding, planning and forecasting, compliance reporting, historical trend analyses, and leadership decision-making.
  • Ensure high data quality through audits, validation, reconciliation, and cross-system checks.
  • Complete regular and ad hoc reporting processes (EEO-1, VETS-4212, AAP, internal equity analyses).
HRISSystemsManagement(25%)
  • Partner with HRIS management on Paylocity system configuration, enhancements, and testing related to reporting, payroll, benefits, workforce monitoring, and compliance.
  • Assist with documenting processes, developing SOPs, and supporting system training and troubleshooting for HR staff and managers.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping vendors to resolve issues efficiently.
  • Become fluent in additional HR systems (i.e. ATS, performance management, training and development) to provide regular and ad-hoc reports to primary users and ensure that all data from these systems is gathered, structured, and interpreted.
Payroll Backup & Tax Oversight(20%)
  • Maintain end-to-end knowledge of payroll processing, including timecard review, off-cycle payrolls, reconciliations, and issue resolution.
  • Serve as a backup payroll processor during absences, peak periods, or emergencies.
  • Monitor federal, state, and local payroll tax processing, filings, and reconciliations in coordination with payroll vendors.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, audits, and tax issue resolution.
  • Assist and support with 401(K) administration and day-to-day tasks including reporting and auditing
  • Support payroll, benefits, and HR compliance efforts related to wage and hour laws, tax requirements, and internal policies.
  • Conduct periodic audits of timecards, payroll data, and system records to ensure consistency and compliance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, Accounting, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field preferred. Equivalent related experience may substitute for a specialized degree.
  • 4+ years of experience in people analytics, data analysis and reporting, or a related HR or business operations role.
  • Demonstrated experience working with HRIS and payroll systems is preferred (Paylocity experience a plus).
  • Strong understanding of payroll fundamentals, payroll taxes (FICA, FUTA, SUTA), and compliance requirements is preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced Excel skills (PivotTables, lookups, data validation); experience building dashboards and reports.
  • Ability to interpret complex datasets, reconcile system data, and troubleshoot discrepancies.
  • Ability to communicate the story of data through visualizations and/or narratives, translating technical concepts into easily digestible and meaningful documents.
  • Experience supporting system implementations, upgrades, or reporting enhancements preferred.

Pay and Benefits
The expected starting salary range for new hires in this position is between $66,000-$76,000/year and may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market for the position, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The position belongs to a class of roles that have a salary range between $60,000-$80,000/year.Subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plans then in effect, eligible employees may enroll in a 401(k) planwith automatic employer contribution, as well as participate in organization-sponsored medical, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability insurance, and basic life insurance plans for the employee and the employee's eligible dependents.PIH offers professional development and home office reimbursements as well as a flexible paid time off policy with no maximum, generous holiday time, summer and winter breaks, and a sabbaticalleavepolicy.
