Senior Software Engineer - Android OS (AOSP / Platform Engineering)

Location: Irvine, CA (Full Onsite)

Pay Rate: $87 per hour

Contract: Possible temp-to-hire

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Android OS to support the development and maintenance of a customized Android Open Source Project (AOSP) platform used in a regulated, embedded device environment. This is a highly technical, onsite role in Irvine, CA, focused on Android platform engineering-not application development.

The ideal candidate brings deep experience with Android OS internals, Linux kernel development, and system-level integration, along with a strong understanding of cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Customize, update, and harden Android OS (Android 5) to address security, performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance an AOSP fork, including frameworks, system services, HAL, and BSP integration.
  • Apply OS-level security patches and reduce OS and kernel attack surfaces.
  • Perform board bring-up, kernel integration, and hardware driver customization.
  • Conduct low-level debugging using tools such as UART and JTAG.
  • Improve system performance, resource utilization, and IPC (Binder/AIDL).
  • Implement OTA update mechanisms.
  • Support cybersecurity risk analysis, threat modeling, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Perform OS-level verification and validation aligned with IEC 62304 and ISO 14971.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation to support audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Collaborate with application, cybersecurity, systems, and quality engineering teams.



Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of Android OS / AOSP platform development.
  • Strong Linux kernel and embedded systems expertise.
  • Experience working in regulated environments.
