Brevard Music Center seeks a strategic and relationship-driven Chief Advancement Officer to lead the organization's fundraising, institutional marketing, and external engagement efforts during a significant period of institutional growth and evolution. Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer and serving as a member of the senior leadership team, the Chief Advancement Officer will play a central role in advancing BMC's mission, strengthening its culture of philanthropy, and expanding its visibility and impact. The Chief Advancement Officer will oversee all aspects of fundraising, including individual giving, major gifts, capital campaigns, institutional support, stewardship, and donor engagement, as well as Marketing and Communications. This integrated portfolio reflects the essential connection between compelling storytelling, audience development, and philanthropic success. The role requires an experienced leader who brings strategic vision, operational rigor, and authentic relationship-building, along with an appreciation for the distinctive dynamics of a mission-driven, artistically focused organization. This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a nationally respected music institution at a pivotal moment. The Chief Advancement Officer will exercise meaningful influence through close collaboration with organizational leadership and will have the opportunity to align philanthropy, marketing, and storytelling in service of Brevard Music Center's enduring mission. Situated on a stunning, wooded 180-acre campus in western North Carolina, Brevard Music Center (BMC) is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier summer training programs and music festivals. Under the artistic leadership of acclaimed conductor Keith Lockhart, who serves as Conductor of the Boston Pops and formerly as Chief Conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra in London, nearly 1,000 exceptionally talented students and participants gather each summer to study with distinguished faculty and internationally renowned guest artists. From June through August, students engage in an intensive program of instruction and performance that includes orchestral training, private study, chamber music, opera, classical guitar, bluegrass, and jazz. Brevard Music Center's hallmark is its powerful sense of community, renewed each June as faculty and students collaborate to present more than 100 performances and events across a wide range of musical genres. These offerings draw more than 40,000 enthusiastic audience members from across the country each summer. Over the past 85-plus years, BMC has been honored to welcome an extraordinary roster of world-class soloists, including Itzhak Perlman, Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Frederica von Stade, Conrad Tao, Johannes Moser, Olga Kern, Garrick Ohlsson, and many other distinguished artists. For nearly a century, the Brevard Music Center has inspired devotion not only among its students and faculty but also among its listeners and among a vast corps of volunteers. That hundreds of persons have purchased homes in western North Carolina expressly to be near the Brevard Music Center gives some measure of the Center's significance to its community. Dedicated to artistic excellence, immersive education, and meaningful community connection, BMC inspires and teaches through music while nurturing the next generation of artists. Significant senior-level experience in advancement, development, or external affairs, preferably within the performing arts, higher education, or mission-driven nonprofit organizations is desirable. Brevard Music Center will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to BMC, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and rsum. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of Brevard Music Center and the responsibilities and qualifications specified in the position prospectus. The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $185,000. Brevard Music Center offers a comprehensive package of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance with employer contributions, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer contribution, a Team Award Plan that awards up to 5% of base salary annually, and generous paid time off.
