Job Summary

Under the general direction of the Leave of Absence (LOA) Centralized Services Manager, the Leave Specialist will consult, analyze, coordinate, and process a high volume and wide variety of leaves of absence under federal and state Laws, UC policy and collective bargaining agreements. Requires an experienced leave of absence professional skilled in customer service and conflict resolution who can exercise independent judgment with strong organizational, analytical and priority setting skills. Ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment. Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to UC Davis Health privacy practices.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Experience managing a high volume and wide variety of leaves in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Experience using case management system and leave tracking tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, Workers Comp, Military Leave, ERISA, HIPAA and applicable state and federal laws and those covered under UC Policy PPSM 2.210.
  • Demonstrated computer-related skills to utilize various software programs including, time and attendance systems, leave processing systems, adobe/PDF, MS Office.
  • Expert knowledge and experience applying FMLA/CFRA/PDL entitlements.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations affecting employee benefit programs.
  • Strong communication, customer service and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly organized, skilled in time management and setting priorities.
  • Skill and resourcefulness to handle difficult and complicated issues with professionalism and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality; to use sound judgment in determining whether materials are sensitive and/or confidential and to handle with appropriate discretion. Ability to adhere to UC Davis Health Privacy Practices
  • Skills to research, collect, analyze, and interpret data from a variety of sources, and utilize problem-solving skills to define problems and implement solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and with confidence with all levels of staff in order to secure understanding and cooperation.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload as it changes daily and complete projects according to time frame.
  • Ability to provide high level of service and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Experience working independently and as team; quickly, accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate and problem solve across all levels of the organization.
  • Interpersonal skills to act as liaison to maintain cooperation and harmony between departments, units and work as a team member.
  • Skills and understanding to interpret standards; assess situation and determine appropriate course of action.
  • Strong word-processing, grammar, and proofreading skills also required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Leave Management Specialist (CLMS)
  • Experience working in a large academic or non-profit medical setting.
  • Understanding of the functions and use of the Ecotime time and attendance system, Ecotime FML module.
  • Understanding the functions of UC Path including request extended absence module, administer extended absence module, job data screen, person organization summary, and benefit summary.
  • Knowledge of UC and UCDH policies and procedures, as well as The Joint Commission, applicable regulations and standards as required.
  • Skills and ability to create and distribute reports.
  • Knowledge of UC policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreements.

This unit oversees and administers employee leave programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and UC policies and collective bargaining agreements while supporting employees through life events that require extended time away from work.

Work Environment
