Job Summary

Supervise hourly staff and temporary employees in the production area in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Oversee production run on assigned line(s) in accordance with published schedule.



Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Model the Spectrum Brands eight Core Capabilities to achieve service excellence, meet and exceed organizational objectives and support fiscal responsibility.
  • Must understand and demonstrate safe work practices at all times to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Create and maintain a positive environment for all employees free of intimidation and harassment.
  • Responsible for selection and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems and disputes.
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Increase efficiency of shop, department and work crew by suggesting changes in working conditions and use of equipment.
  • Establish or adjust work procedures to ensure production schedules are met.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Train direct reports on the proper mechanical adjustments to production line equipment.
  • Contribute to the accomplishment of Key Performance Indicators including safety, quality, production, cost and development.
  • Evaluate production schedules and establish work hour requirements to ensure completion of job assignments.
  • Interpret specifications and job orders to production workers and assign duties.
  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals and improve overall work environment.
  • Effectively communicate with other Supervisors to ensure coordination of activities of each department.
  • Maintain time and production records.
  • Estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
  • Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications and direct set-up and adjustments of machines.
  • Maintain high levels of quality to eliminate sub-standard products.
  • Other duties as assigned.



Education and Experience Profile

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree preferred and one to three years of relevant experience in manufacturing, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Technical experience in mechanical troubleshooting and equipment repair is required.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.



Required Skills

  • Working knowledge and understanding of mechanical functions related to aerosol and liquid production including, but not limited to:

    • machine variables and constraints of production lines
    • change parts used with specific products
    • change over procedures
    • use and meaning of gauges such as micrometers and calipers
    • pumps and air compressors
    • minor motor repair and troubleshooting




  • Ability to comprehend and follow the operating master.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers or employees.



Work Environment

10% normal office environment and 90% manufacturing environment
