Senior Patient Care Liaison
Job Summary
Employment Duration: 5 months
Reporting to the Director of International Services, the Senior Patient Care Liaison plays a critical role in coordinating and managing complex patient referrals for domestic and international patients. This role delivers highly personalized, concierge-level services to ensure seamless access to UCSF Health's clinical services while supporting departmental goals related to patient satisfaction, access to care, referral growth, and philanthropy.
The Senior Patient Care Liaison works closely with patients, families, clinicians, and internal partners, providing exceptional service in a fast-paced, high-touch healthcare environment. This position may include 24/7 on-call coverage for international patients during their visits.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate complex domestic and international patient referrals across UCSF Health clinical services
- Review medical records and determine appropriate clinical services or physician referrals
- Schedule consultations, second opinions, ancillary services, and inpatient admissions
- Arrange transportation, lodging, and personalized escort services as needed
- Serve as primary liaison for patients and families, addressing escalated clinical, logistical, and financial concerns
- Ensure accurate collection and transmission of medical records, imaging, and reports
- Coordinate with financial teams to develop cost estimates, secure payments, reconcile accounts, and process refunds
- Maintain detailed referral documentation and track patient and program metrics
- Build strong working relationships with clinicians, practice staff, and department leadership
- Act as an ambassador for UCSF Health in all patient and stakeholder interactions
- Support patient satisfaction initiatives, referral growth, and donor stewardship efforts

Department Description UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.
Required Qualifications

- EPIC experience
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex patient and operational needs
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with diverse patient populations and stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Proven ability to work independently, multitask, and perform under pressure
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Proficiency with standard word processing and spreadsheet software
- Highly motivated, dependable, and detail-oriented

Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training
- Experience working in healthcare, particularly in roles requiring significant judgment and discretion
- Experience in an academic medical center
- Knowledge of concierge or international patient services
- Familiarity with healthcare compliance, patient rights, and regulatory requirements
- Fluency in a second language (Mandarin strongly preferred)
