The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has a new opportunity for a Mobile Phlebotomist to support the research being conducted by clinician-investigator Dr. Kathrine Vickery at Hennepin Healthcare's HCMC.

The Mobile Phlebotomist is a part-time position to work up to 4 hours per week with flexible scheduling. This is a four-year, grant funded position with the possibility of continued employment on other projects.

The mobile phlebotomist will be responsible performing phlebotomies at participant homes and delivering specimens to the HCMC CSC lab for the D-HOMES study led by clinician-investigator Dr. Katherine Vickery. This study aims to support people experiencing homelessness to improve their overall wellness and diabetes management (hemoglobin A1c) through improved medication adherence and better use of community resources. The mobile phlebotomist will conduct approximately 5 phlebotomies a week at participants' homes and will also perform data entry and computer maintenance tasks, maintain adequate supplies, and collect other biometrics for participants at home including height, weight, and blood pressure.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:



  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform specimen delivery.

    • Transport specimens to the main lab at HCMC CSC


  • Collect height, weight, and blood pressure
  • Perform data entry and computer maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain adequate supplies.

    • Keep an inventory of and order supplies as needed
    • Unpack laboratory supplies
    • Monitor and confirm packing list to supplies received.
    • Mark all items with the date received


  • Maintain ordering log of lab purchases (Purchases & Expenses log)


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education/Experience:

Any combination of equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be Phlebotomy certificate or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or one (1) year related phlebotomy experience in a medical setting.

A valid driver's license, proof of insurance and a satisfactory driving record is required. Employees must carry a minimum of 100/300/100 liability insurance coverage and not have a "business use" exclusion in their insurance policy.

This role will be participant-facing and the candidate will need to pass the DHS background check.

Skill, Knowledge & Ability:

Requires interaction with diverse populations. Knowledge of medical terminology and the collection and transport of lab specimens. Must have the ability to follow standard operating procedures and techniques for phlebotomy. Must have ability to work with minimal supervision and be highly organized, efficient and possess good manual dexterity to handle specimens. Ability to maintain strict adherence to research protocols. Must maintain appropriate training/certification as required by varied research protocols. Must have knowledge of proper telephone etiquette and be responsive to participant needs. Displays high standards of attendance and punctuality. Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
