ABOUT THE ROLE

The Junior Preconstruction Engineer is vital in ensuring the smooth execution of precast concrete projects, from concept through design and into preliminary stages of construction, helping the team avoid costly delays and ensuring that all precast components meet the required standards. This role involves working closely with internal and external design teams, project managers, and engineers to ensure that all building components are accurately designed, budgeted, and coordinated for successful project delivery.

Salary range $77,000-$117,000 Based on location and experience.

WHAT YOU'LL DO




  • Preconstruction Planning & Coordination:



    • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and clients to understand project scope and objectives
    • Coordinate with internal teams to align precast elements with project schedules and timelines



  • Design & Technical Review:



    • Review construction documents to identify precast requirements and ensure compliance with codes, standards, and client specifications
    • Work with design engineers to evaluate challenges and develop innovative precast solutions



  • Cost Estimating & Budgeting:



    • Develop and maintain budgets for precast scope, including cost-saving and value engineering opportunities
    • Compare alternative precast solutions to determine the most cost-effective approach



  • Scheduling & Logistics:



    • Coordinate material procurement, transportation, and delivery to support timely installation
    • Work with project managers to adjust schedules based on progress and delays



  • Quality Control & Compliance:



    • Ensure precast designs and products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements
    • Address design or production issues and implement corrective actions



  • Client & Stakeholder Communication:



    • Serve as the primary point of contact for precast-related preconstruction inquiries
    • Provide updates to sales and project teams and support meetings and presentations



  • Risk Management:



    • Identify risks related to precast scope and develop mitigation strategies
    • Perform risk assessments related to manufacturing, transport, and installation coordination




WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The ideal candidate is early in their career with a degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field, or has 1-3 years of relevant industry experience. They have a basic understanding of construction documents and an interest in learning how precast concrete systems are designed, estimated, and coordinated within projects. This individual is detail-oriented, eager to develop technical and problem-solving skills, and comfortable working in a team environment while growing their ability to manage multiple preconstruction tasks.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE



  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience in design, structural design, construction, or preconstruction engineering, preferred.
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, and other relevant software.
  • Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, and the ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, preferred.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Occasional visits to active plant and field locations are required based on operational needs.
  • Ability to wear all required PPE, including but not limited to safety boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, high visibility vest, hard hat, and other PPE as required while in the plant and field.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and navigate active plant and field environments as needed.
  • Must be able to climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces, and safely move through industrial work areas.
  • May be exposed to moving equipment, machinery, and other standard industrial hazards.
  • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, as well as noise, dust, and vibration.
