Role Summary

In this position, you will be working with the Electric Machine Mechanical Design team on the next generation of electric motor components for Rivian's Electric Adventure Vehicles. You will support design, release test fixtures to test motor subcomponents, motor assemblies and drive units from concept development, prototype builds, to production as well as for future products currently in-development.


Responsibilities

  • Design of tooling and test fixtures for early prototype development & test activities.
  • Develop Test procedures for Test & Validation, as needed to evaluate hardware meeting acceptance criteria.
  • Perform sub-system and components design and development for electric motors and supporting mechanical structures with hands-on experiments & testing.
  • Author motor component technical specifications, DFMEA, DVPR, and Test procedures for internal and external use.
  • Collect and analyze test data. Use data analysis tools, document results, and provide test reports; suggest areas for improvement to the product Engineering Team.
  • Ensure timely completion of test project deliverables including hardware, required equipment, data collection & analyses and other documentations as required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum B.S Mechanical Engineering degree with 5+ years or Master's with 3+ years of experience related to test and validation, preferably with a focus in Motors & Electric drivetrain or E-axle.
  • Experience preferred in 3D CAD software package such as CATIA V6.
  • Experience with applying GD&T (ASME Y14.5), conducting stack-up analyses (linear & radial), and determining realistic tolerancing limits based on material and manufacturing methods
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in the areas of materials, mechanics, dynamics, design for manufacturability, and high-precision metrology.
  • Experience with Test control & Data acquisition systems, building test panels & instrumentation.
  • Understanding of automotive SAE & ISO regulatory requirements
  • Past work leading, root cause analysis efforts, and determining effective containment actions.
  • Knowledge in DFMEA & DVPR.
  • Strong problem-solving skills & Experience with Electrical and Mechanical Hardware troubleshooting.
  • High-energy, open-minded attitude willing to quickly iterate on designs and expand skillset as needed.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range California-Based Applicants: $107,800 - $134,800 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental, and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is adequate on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
