Iowa Lions Eye Bank is seeking dependable and motivated Recovery Technicians to support our mission of restoring and preserving sight. This is not a transport or courier position. Recovery Technicians perform hands-on clinical work involving the surgical recovery of human ocular tissue for transplant, research, and education. About the Role Recovery Technicians, based out of our Coralville office, work independently and travel to hospitals, funeral homes, and medical examiner offices in the Eastern Iowa area. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: verifying authorization, confirming the identity of the donor, completing donor physical assessments, preparing the donor, obtaining an adequate blood sample, performing whole eye enucleation or in situ corneal excision, using proper aseptic technique, packaging ocular tissue for transport, and completing all required documentation. A small team rotates on-call shifts to provide 24/7 coverage. (0000-0800, 0800-1600, and 1600-0000). Requirements * Valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation * High school diploma or equivalent * Ability to work independently and communicate clearly * Comfortable working with deceased individuals * Strong fine motor skills and attention to detail * Ability to stand for extended periods and lift 50+ pounds * Good manual dexterity * Must be able to arrive to the office within 30 minutes of being paged to a case Preferred * Experience in healthcare, bioscience, lab work, or sterile/aseptic technique * Experience working in an on-call capacity Compensation * On-Call Pay: $5/hour * Training Pay: $16/hour during the training period * Regular Pay: $20/hour for worked hours after successfully completing training A University of Iowa background check is required. |
