Full Pay Range: $28.00 - $42.00 hourly

Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

In this role, you will perform work of substantial complexity, administering and maintaining a variety of specialized analytical, meteorological, and data-recording instruments for the detection of atmospheric pollutants. This position requires a high level of independence and provides the opportunity to apply your technical expertise in support of critical air quality monitoring operations.

We Require

  • Two years of experience in electronic repair and maintenance

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Post-secondary education in electronics or environmental science may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver's license and have an acceptable driving record by the time of hire

  • Air Instrument Technicians must complete certification in the USEPA 40-Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operation Course within one year of hire date

  • Specified positions may require a medical exam, US Citizenship, and the ability to successfully pass a DHS background check

We Also Value

  • Associate degree or higher in electronics, environmental science, or a closely related field

  • Experience in the field of electronic repair and maintenance

  • Experience working with Teledyne, Thermo Scientific, or Sabio analyzers or equivalent.

  • Experience in troubleshooting using diagnostic tools and equipment.

  • Experience with reports for presentations to the public

  • Experience working with Ambient Air Monitoring equipment

Job Contributions

  • Performs moderate to complex maintenance, inspection, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of air quality instrumentation, including electronic, mechanical, and computerized components, as required by the Code of Federal Regulations

  • Creates accurate documentation of instrument checks, instrument repairs, and site evaluations (e.g. instrument check, equipment repair, and site evaluation forms)

  • Maintains air monitoring sites and performs site maintenance activities (e.g. filter changes, sweeping, trash and weed removal)

  • Assists in the collection, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of data

  • Operates manual/power tools and equipment in the field

  • Participates in division and department trainings as required

Working Conditions

  • Exerting over 100 lbs. occasionally, 50-100 lbs. frequently, or up to 20-50 lbs. constantly

  • While performing the duties & responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations

  • Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation

  • Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration

  • Within one year of hire, must obtain certification in the USEPA 40-Hour Hazardous Materials Incident Response Operation Course

  • Protective Equipment Required: Safety boots, full-face respirator, Tyvek suit., earplugs, dust masks, safety glasses, hard hat

  • Weekend work may be required on an as-needed basis
