Summary
The Director of Energy Procurement leads electricity and natural gas procurement strategy and execution for nationally based clients. This role combines market expertise with hands-on supplier negotiation and client advisory responsibilities to ensure contracts are optimized for cost savings, risk management, compliance, and long-term value.
The Director will directly manage the full energy procurement lifecycle, including market strategy development, pricing events (RFPs), bid analysis, supplier selection, contract review and execution, and post-award implementation. The Director will also lead and mentor analyst-level procurement resources while maintaining consistent, scalable, and high-quality procurement operations.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Support
* Lead and mentor analyst-level procurement resources to ensure consistent execution and high-quality client deliverables.
* Establish procurement workflows, templates, and quality controls to support accuracy and scalability.
* Set priorities, manage workload, and ensure deadlines are consistently met.
Client Strategy and Engagement
* Serve as a senior procurement advisor and develop tailored procurement strategies aligned with client goals and risk tolerance.
* Prepare and deliver client presentations and procurement recommendations, including price comparisons, risk considerations, and renewal timing guidance.
* Partner with internal stakeholders to support client retention, renewals, and scope expansion.
Energy Procurement Execution (End-to-End)
* Manage procurement readiness by validating account and usage data, eligibility requirements, and contract expiration timelines.
* Plan and execute RFP and pricing events, including supplier outreach and bid management.
* Analyze supplier bids, model savings and budget impact, and deliver clear supplier recommendations.
* Negotiate supplier pricing and terms, review contracts for compliance and risk exposure, and coordinate execution approvals.
* Coordinate post-award implementation including supplier enrollment, start date confirmation, and issue resolution.
Market, Supplier, and Risk Management
* Monitor electricity and natural gas market conditions and track regulatory changes impacting procurement strategy.
* Maintain supplier relationships and drive performance expectations related to responsiveness, contract execution, and service quality.
* Identify and mitigate contract and market risk tied to volatility exposure, credit requirements, termination terms, and operational constraints.
Reporting and Operational Excellence
* Maintain procurement documentation, renewal tracking, and standardized reporting across clients.
* Track procurement outcomes and support contract compliance monitoring in coordination with internal teams.
