12pm-Close and every other weekend/holiday

This position directly supervises food service workers, assistant cooks, cooks in a kitchen environment (union and classified). This position is responsible for hiring, scheduling, evaluating, training and formal discipline recommendations. In addition, this position is responsible for all activity within the department with emphasis on patient service, but including supervision of tray line, cafeteria service and stocking of patient floors with all food service staff on duty. Supervisor may also be responsible for food safety compliance, inventory and managing floor stock in patient care kitchens, refrigerators. This position will also have the responsibility of supervising the entire department on weekends and holidays. The supervisor is responsible for researching, testing and developing new recipes/new menus in conjunction with the cooks. They oversee food production meets budgetary requirements as well as meets health, sanitation and quality standards.

Responsibilities

Core Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Supervises the preparation, portioning, service, and cleanup of meals to patients, visitors and staff inspecting all food for attractiveness, palatability, proper temperature and ensuring friendly, timely delivery to patients and customers.
  • Maintains employee work schedules, time records, attendance records, job descriptions, performance standards, competencies, task list, and training checklist.
  • Ensures equipment in the area is operational, properly maintained and kept clean.
  • Adjusts staffing levels to ensure productivity is maintained.
  • Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.
  • Integrates and demonstrates FOCUS values, while adhering to the policies and procedures of Unity Point Health.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities; is open and objective to other's views; gives and welcomes feedback; contributes to team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.
  • Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections. Identifies and addresses potential or actual concerns immediately and reports to leadership.

Supervisory Functions

  • Follows HR Hiring procedures. Assists with the interviewing process, trains, orients, schedules, and welcomes new employees to the department.
  • Assists with the evaluation of employee performance and handles all personnel issues by working with Food and Nutrition leaders/HR.
  • Demonstrates ability to audit, count and balance both cashier transactions and department bank.

Quality Assurance

  • Participates in the Management Experience of the students enrolled in the Dietetic Internship Program.
  • Completes assigned quality measures such as Adopt a Floor, Patient and Employee Rounding, Test Trays, Tray Accuracy Audits, and Handwashing Audits.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience: Five years lead or supervisory work experience
  • License/Certification: ServSafe Certified within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge/Skills/abilities: Leadership skills. Relationship management. Teamwork. Professionalism. Communication-written & verbal. Planning and organizing skills. Problem-solving. Computer knowledge.
  • Other: Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.
