The Mechanical Engineering Group provides innovative design solutions for advanced technology prototypes. Example projects include laser communication, high-energy lasers, optical sensors, biological agent detectors, and large radar antennas, for systems deployed on ground, maritime, air- and space-borne platforms. The group has expertise in precision engineering, opto-mechanics, mechanisms, electronics packaging, large structures, highly efficient lightweight structures, composite materials and additive manufacturing. The group is the Engineering Division's center for 3D CAD design and data management and is involved in every step of program execution from conceptual design to system integration and test.


Position Description

Cable interconnect engineer in the Mechanical Engineering Group will be assigned to program teams requiring little supervision and perform assignments with creative ability, resourcefulness, and originality. The engineer will lead the designs for system interconnects, cable, and harness designs for prototype programs. Th engineer must take initiative and be thorough and detailed. They must work effectively with individuals from various groups and at many levels of the organization. They must also demonstrate effective communication skills.


Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, or BS or Associates Degree in Engineering discipline plus 5 years of relevant experience in electrical interconnection design
  • Develop, design, and drive system and unit-level electrical interconnection and power distribution schemes in collaboration with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Prepare design concepts, block diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, cable/harness fabrication drawings utilizing 2D and 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software
  • Perform basic design calculations, and select appropriate components and hardware
  • Support part procurement, fabrication, and system-level integration while reporting and maintaining program milestones


Preferred Qualifications

  • Possess knowledge of electronic design for aerospace applications, including connector selection, wire types/sizes/derating, voltage drops, electro-mechanical packaging, electrical fabrication, and assembly techniques.
  • Possess knowledge of NASA, Military, ASME, and IEEE standards and specifications
  • Competency in SolidWorks and/or Zuken E3
  • Possess knowledge of PDM (Product Data Management) and/or PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software



Clearance


Interim clearance is acceptable upon start; secret clearance is required for maintaining the position. The candidate must be willing to undergo a background investigation for a Top Secret clearance once Secret clearance has been approved.


Hiring Range:$110,400 - $148,900
