SUMMARY The Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist is a licensed pharmacist responsible for applying knowledge, skill, competence, and advanced clinical expertise within the freestanding emergency care center located approximately 20 minutes south of Grady Memorial Hospital in Union City, GA. This position is approved for 8 hour evening shifts (3:00pm-11:30pm) with every other weekend responsibilities. This pharmacist will serve in a primary on-site leadership role and will be responsible for both clinical and operational oversight of pharmacy services at the freestanding emergency department. The clinical pharmacist functions as an advanced practitioner, educator, consultant, and leader. The Emergency Medicine Pharmacist Supervisor applies knowledge of and clinical training in pharmacotherapy to directly influence and impact provider prescribing to improve medication use across the Health System and enhance positive drug therapy outcomes. Acting as an integral member of the healthcare team, the pharmacist assumes responsibility for appropriate medication selection and monitoring through direct patient care activities, while serving as a liaison between pharmacy and other healthcare practitioners. In addition to clinical responsibilities, this role will assist in establishing workflows, developing operational processes, supporting regulatory compliance, and ensuring safe and efficient medication-use systems within the new emergency care center.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care in the emergency care center, including renal dose adjustments, anticoagulation monitoring, drug interaction evaluation, and medication therapy optimization.
- Influence prescribing practices to promote safe, effective, and cost-conscious medication use.
- Serve as the primary pharmacy representative at the freestanding emergency department.
- Oversee daily pharmacy-related operations at the site, including workflow development, policy and procedure implementation, medication safety initiatives, and regulatory readiness.
- Act as liaison between pharmacy services and emergency department providers, nursing staff, and leadership.
- Promote rational and cost-effective medication use throughout the emergency care center.
- Precept PGY-1 and PGY-2 pharmacy residents and doctoral-level pharmacy students as applicable.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Pharmacist -in-charge (PCI) with the Georgia Board of Pharmacy ensuring compliance with state regulations, record keeping, and facility licensure standards
- CSOS Coordinator for the facility and ensures compliance with all DEA and state controlled substance regulations
QUALIFICATIONS Required:
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree from accredited institution
- ASHP-accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency OR Doctor of Pharmacy degree with at least 3 years of post-Pharm.D. experience in job-related pharmacy practice OR Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy with at least 5 years of job-related pharmacy practice experience.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Fully licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of Georgia or eligible for full licensure within 90 days through reciprocity or examination.
Preferred:
- PGY-2 Residency in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care Pharmacy.
