The Opportunity: As a High School Math Teacher, you will deliver challenging, student-centered instruction that builds conceptual understanding and real-world problem-solving. You will plan strategically, use data to differentiate, implement evidence-based practices and appropriate technology, and assess progress against clear standards to ensure readiness for college-level mathematics.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum and Planning



  • Collaborate with the department chair and administration to develop annual curriculum maps aligned to standards and course outcomes.
  • Design coherent units and weekly lesson plans that build conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Incorporate formative and summative assessments to monitor learning and adjust instruction.
  • Intentionally integrate faith with learning by embedding Biblical concepts in lessons.


Instruction and Learning



  • Employ a learner-centered approach that fosters inquiry, collaboration, and problem-solving.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and extend advanced learners.
  • Integrate instructional technology (e.g., graphing tools, LMS) to strengthen conceptual understanding and engagement.
  • Implement effective classroom management grounded in respect and consistent routines.


Professional Collaboration and Communication



  • Participate actively in professional learning and contribute to departmental initiatives.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development and contribute to a positive school educational culture.
  • Support the school's Christian mission in word and deed by modeling a life of faith and integrity.
  • Maintain accurate records, communicate proactively with students and families, and uphold school policies


Student Support and Community Engagement



  • Build positive, mentoring relationships with students that support both academic and Christlike character formation.
  • Sponsor or supervise co-curricular and/or extracurricular activities as part of regular faculty responsibilities.
  • Uphold all expectations detailed in the faculty handbook.
  • Serve as an advisor and participate in chapel, community events, and co-curricular life


What You Bring



  • As a Christian independent school affiliated with the Churches of Christ, Lipscomb Academy seeks faculty who can support and model the school's mission and values. Candidates should be willing to participate in spiritual life activities and mentor students in faith and character.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; Tennessee Teacher License (valid certification in Mathematics).
  • Experience: Three or more years preferred; strong early-career candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Competencies:


    • Demonstrated content mastery in high school mathematics and familiarity with college-preparatory expectations.
    • Proficiency with learning management systems and relevant instructional technology.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and professional judgment.



Preferred



  • Master's Degree
  • Experience designing standards-aligned units and performance tasks.
  • Evidence of effective differentiation and formative assessment practices.
  • Prior experience in Christian education or demonstrated alignment with Lipscomb Academy's mission.
