Lab Technician

Huntsman is seeking a Lab Technician supporting the Advanced Materials Division located at the McIntosh Site. This position will report to the Lab Manager.

Job Scope

Lab Technician shall perform routine analyses, control testing and other laboratory work connected with raw material, intermediates and finished goods control as directed by the Lab Technician's supervisor; be responsible for properly following analytical test methods, recording analytical test results as directed, and transmitting such test results as directed. The Lab Technician shall be capable of carrying out all operations, test methods, and procedures usually done within the classification. The Lab Technician shall attend to housekeeping in the Lab Technician's work area. The Lab Technician shall perform all duties pertaining to or connected with this classification and shall perform incidental work of other classifications the employee is capable of performing.

In summary, as the Lab Technician, you will:
  • Perform routine analyses, control testing and other laboratory work connected with raw material, intermediates and finished goods control as directed by the Lab Technician's supervisor.

  • Properly follow analytical test methods.

  • Record analytical test results as directed and transmit such test results as directed.

  • Carry out all operations, test methods, and procedures usually done within the classification.

  • Attend to housekeeping in the Lab Technician's work area.

  • Perform all duties pertaining to or connected with this classification and perform incidental work of other classifications the employee is capable of performing.

  • Follow instructions and perform other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.

  • Assist other employees in accomplishment of Huntsman company goals.

  • Participate in and complete company-required training programs.

  • Participate in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company. An aptitude for Safety, safe work practices, good housekeeping, and continuous improvement required.

  • May require some involvement with materials regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). This involvement may require an understanding of applicable rules and procedures associated with RCRA wastes. A combination of training methods, e.g., Computer-based Training, Classroom, and/or On-the-job training, will be provided prior to any such involvement with RCRA regulated wastes.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

Education required:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required for all jobs. One year of relevant experience may typically be substituted for one year of formal education.

Experience required:

  • Technical or Voc Tech - A.S. in chemistry or related science and/or math - 3 to 5 years
  • AIDT Training - Industrial Training - 3 to 5 years
  • Maintenance, instrument or electrical skills and previous laboratory experience a plus.
Skills and Knowledge
  • Computer skills - requires the use of office computers and various Lab software (LIMS, SAP, etc.)

  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and teamwork is critical for job success.

  • Requires personal initiative.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct plant experience in a chemical or paper manufacturing environment a plus.

  • Laboratory experience a plus.

Working Environment

  • A technical assessment is required as part of the candidate evaluation process. Applicants must receive a passing score on the assessment, which tests the applicant's knowledge of, and familiarity with, basic manufacturing equipment and processes. Applicants not receiving a passing score must wait 6 months before retesting. Receipt of a passing score is a minimum requirement; it does not guarantee the applicant will be selected for the role.
