Ever-Green Energy is looking for a team member to provide field oversight for the construction and maintenance of the District Energy Heating and Cooling distribution pipeline systems; including valves, underground vaults, expansion chambers, tunnels, substations, communication systems, and customer connections to ensure that all customers receive reliable thermal energy.

This position will take part in weld inspections, welding records documentation and qualifying welders who will be authorized to perform work for District Energy St. Paul.

Minimum requirements to be successful in this role:

  • Postsecondary course work or equivalent experience in math, written communications, piping systems and other areas related to utility construction.
  • Minimum 3 years of education in Arc Welding or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess CWI Certification or have the ability to attain a CWI Certification within twelve months of employment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, municipal authorities, and customers relative to contracts and utility service requirements.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and contract specifications, and the ability to prepare reports, analyses, and record documents.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing job situations, the ability to work diplomatically with people inside and outside the company.
  • Strong supervisory skills, effective oral and written communications.
  • Computer word processing and spreadsheet operational skills are essential, including Microsoft Office. The ability to prepare and manage reports and records
  • The ability to climb into and out of vaults and perform lifting of equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and a clear driving record.

Preferred requirements:

  • Underground utilities experience working with contractors, vendors and customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Field Supervisor - Distribution Pipeline Construction Projects

  1. Provide field supervision for distribution pipeline construction projects. This includes technical approval of installation requirements; contract required quality control, field response to installation issues, field oversight to ensure contractor compliance with District Energy Standard Specifications, contractor scheduling and coordination.
  2. Prepare and stage construction materials at the District Energy storage yard.
  3. Assist the Project Manager with construction project documentation.
  4. Complete daily construction reports and contractor timesheet. Remotely transfer construction reports and timesheets to the project file.
  5. Work with engineering staff to maintain and update as-built records system.

2. Pipeline Weld Inspector

    1. Understanding of ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Process Piping code.
    2. Understanding of NDT testing: x-ray, mag particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic.
    3. Understanding of PQR and WPS qualifying welding standards.
    4. Weld Inspection: porosity, undercut, arc strike, etc.
    5. Track and document mechanical contractor welding records.

3. Distribution Responsibilities

  1. Participate in District Energy's "On-Call" System. Respond to after-hours calls for Gopher State One-Call. Answer customer system questions and locating of District Energy pipelines and other infrastructure.
  2. Monitor contractors and other utility companies that are conducting excavations that could impact our distribution pipeline and infrastructure.
  3. React to emergency situations on the distribution pipeline. Possibly nights and weekends.
  4. Participate in distribution pipeline system shutdowns. Possibly nights and weekends.
  5. Maintain inventory control of pipeline materials. Ensure inventory materials are accurately recorded.
  6. Assist other distribution personnel to ensure customers are provided with temporary heating or cooling solutions during pipeline shut-downs.
  7. Work with engineering staff to maintain and update as-built records system.
  8. System maintenance and operations: assist as required with maintenance (vaults, valves, gear boxes, etc.)
  9. Assist with Distribution Department programs including: EGE Safety Program, assisting project managers with preventative and corrective maintenance requirements, department shunt program, inventory management, material orders, cathodic protection, operating equipment (fork lift, front-end loader) and other operational requirements.

The employee is frequently required to climbing ramps/stairs; climbing ladders/ropes/scaffolding; foot/leg controls; keyboarding; lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.; peripheral vision by observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point; pushing; pulling; sitting; and standing/walking.

The employee must occasionally be required to crawling; crouching; far visual acuity with clarity of vision at 20 feet or more; fine manipulation by picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in gross manipulation; gross manipulation by seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand(s); kneeling; reaching at/below shoulder level by extending hand and arms from 0 up to 150 degrees in a vertical arc; reaching overhead by extending hands and arms in a 150 to 180 degrees vertical arc; stooping; and confined spaced with limited entry or exit.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position involves working in a steam, hot water, and/or chilled water plant and/or its distribution system. While performing job duties, employees may occasionally encounter potential hazards, including fumes, airborne particles, high-pressure steam in piping or equipment, both hot and cold temperatures, and hazards associated with moving machinery. The work environment's noise level typically ranges from moderate to loud. Other potential hazards common to heating and cooling plants may include confined spaces, slippery surfaces, rotating equipment, chemical handling (e.g., water treatment chemicals), and burns. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and physical controls are in place as needed to mitigate these risks.

We are committed to providing salary ranges for all open positions. Please note that the specific compensation for this role will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity considerations.

The salary range for this position is: $87,800 to $99,000.

This range reflects the base salary for this position.
