The School of Professional Studies, which resides in Texas Tech University Online, offers a number of online degrees in flexible 8-week course terms.

About the Department/School/Area

The School of Professional Studies promotes students' leadership and career opportunities for success in a dynamic workplace through engaging interdisciplinary and career-focused credential and degree programs. The faculty of Professional Studies is dedicated to supporting students' skills by integrating multiple knowledge bases essential for navigating the complex and interconnected challenges of today's world, particularly those that involve multiple disciplines. The curricula and programs in Professional Studies prepare students to address the interdisciplinary challenges requiring a holistic approach emphasizing creativity, collaboration, and life-long learning for personal and career development.

Major/Essential Functions

Teaching online undergraduate and/or micro-credentialing courses in Human Resource Development, Leadership, Interdisciplinary Studies, or Legal Studies for the School of Professional Studies degree program. Job assignment is dependent on the needs of the department.

Faculty Qualifications

Terminal Degree (PhD, JD, or equivalent) in one of the following areas:

  • Human Resources (HR), including a JD with relevant HR work experience

  • Leadership Studies or related field

  • Interdisciplinary Studies

  • JD/terminal degree related to legal studies

  • Computer Science

  • Applied Computing or related field

OR Master's Degree in one of the following areas:

  • Human Resources (HR)

  • Leadership Studies or related field

  • Interdisciplinary Studies

  • Legal Studies or a related legal degree

  • Computer Science

  • Applied Computing or related field

Additional Requirements:

  • Terminal or master's degree must be conferred prior to hire.

  • Candidates holding a JD must have successfully passed a bar examination.

  • Candidates who hold a completed master's degree in any field and have completed 18 credit hours in the above specified areas (as determined by the academic unit) will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications


  • HR Certification from either the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) or the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI)

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), such as Blackboard or Canvas

  • 2 to 5 years of teaching experience in higher education

  • Artificial Intelligence Certification or experience working with AI
