Summary:

The Development and Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the Foundation's fundraising and donor engagement efforts. This position is well-suited for an early-to-mid-career development professional (2-5 years of experience) who is eager to take meaningful ownership of annual fund outreach, steward donor relationships, and support cultivation activities and special events-while continuing to learn and grow within a high-performing and evolving development team.

In this role, the Specialist independently manages donor outreach initiatives while providing strong operational, logistical, and administrative support across the Foundations, development activities. The position requires significant autonomy in managing donor relationship, tailoring communications and engagement approaches to individual donor interests and feedback. Because relationship management is not scripted, the Specialist must exercise sound judgement in cultivating and stewarding donors within established guidelines. Flexibility in scheduling is essential, as the role must adjust to donor availability and event timelines, including modifying work hours when needed to meet organizational priorities. Job Duties & Responsibilities: Donor Outreach & Annual Fund
  • Conduct proactive outreach to annual fund donors and prospects, including email, phone, and written communications

  • Manage assigned donor portfolios at the annual fund level, including timely follow-up, documentation, and relationship tracking

  • Support donor acquisition, renewal, and upgrade strategies in collaboration with senior development staff

  • Independently determines how to approach, sequence, and personalize outreach based on donor preferences, inclinations, and responsiveness.

  • Shapes the donor engagement approach using judgment, without scripts, while collaborating with leadership for overall strategy.

Donor Stewardship & Cultivation
  • Execute stewardship activities, including acknowledgments, impact communications, and donor updates

  • Assist with cultivation strategies for individual donors and community supporters

  • Prepare donor briefings, talking points, and background materials as needed

  • Use discretion to manage donor relationships, customizing stewardship and communications to fit each donor's interests and the evolving nature of the relationship.

  • Handles donor needs and issues in real time, applying judgment to determine when escalation is appropriate.

Special Events & Engagement
  • Support planning and execution of fundraising and cultivation events, including logistics, guest management, materials, and follow-up

  • Coordinate event-related donor communications, invitations, and post-event stewardship

  • Assist with on-site event support and donor engagement activities

  • May lead specific event workstreams, (ex. sponsorship outreach, vendor coordination, VIP guest engagement) and do so with autonomy.

  • Makes day-to-day decisions to address event issues (ex. Vendor delays, sponsor requests) to ensure event success.

Operations & Team Support
  • Maintain accurate donor records and activity tracking in the Foundation's CRM

  • Support reporting, data entry, and list management related to development activities

  • Provide general administrative and project support to the development team, including other duties as needed to support a growing organization

  • Self-manages daily and weekly schedule to accommodate donor availability, sponsor communication and event demands, including occasional evenings/weekends.

  • Adjusts priority and workflow independently to meet external timelines, donor needs, and fundraising objectives.

Additional Job Description:

Education/Training Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, nonprofit advancement, or a related field

  • Demonstrated interest in philanthropy, donor engagement, and mission-driven work

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Comfort with donor outreach and relationship-building, including phone and written communication

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with donor databases/CRMs (or willingness to learn)

  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and eager to grow professionally within a dynamic environment
