HOK is seeking a Structural Engineering Practice Leader with deep experience in the planning, design, and execution of structural engineering projects. This role is responsible for leading the Structural Engineering practice across business development, project design and delivery, client relationships, financial performance, and staff development. The Practice Leader will also collaborate with the business unit to develop and implement regional strategies for the structural engineering discipline.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


Projects (75%)


  • Lead engineering efforts on large or complex projects.



  • Oversee engineering design for major projects and provide design input and reviews for smaller projects.



  • Participate actively in all phases and levels of project development.



  • Ensure high-quality, timely project delivery and effective team coordination across all offices.



  • Mentor engineering staff throughout project work.

Management and Technical Improvement (15%)


  • Manage regional team resources, including workload forecasting, staffing, and coordinating shared work with other office leaders.



  • Mentor engineers with a focus on elevating design quality, technical excellence, and workflow efficiency.



  • Monitor and manage project financial performance with a commitment to profitability.



  • Lead regional initiatives in technical development, design quality, delivery standards, and QA/QC.



  • Oversee development and maintenance of typical details, specifications, drawing standards, and Revit standards in collaboration with the BIM team.



  • Promote knowledge sharing on technical issues and innovative solutions to strengthen the team's expertise.



  • Enhance analytical processes, documentation, and standardized solutions for recurring and critical design challenges.



  • Foster a strong culture of internal and external client service.


Business Development (10%)


  • Support engineering-related business development, including proposal writing, interview participation, and identifying new opportunities.



  • Partner with HOK market leaders on engineering pursuits and lead engineering-driven opportunities across all markets.


Strategic Responsibilities


  • Serve as a key leader within the regional multidisciplinary engineering group and participate in firmwide leadership for the engineering discipline.


  • Contribute to long-term business planning and execution of strategic initiatives.



  • Identify and pursue new local market opportunities for engineering services.


Performance Measures


  • Efficiency and profitability of the engineering discipline within the region and its contribution to firmwide success.



  • Quality of design solutions, including integration, innovation, sustainability performance, and recognition from peers.



  • Quality of technical output, evaluated by design completeness, minimal change orders, and client satisfaction.



  • Strength and cohesion of the discipline team, reflected in effective work sharing, consistent quality, aligned standards, and strong communication.



  • Demonstrated contributions to winning new work, with a focus on client retention and repeat business.



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • 15+ years of project engineering experience from concept through completion, including high profile built projects.



  • Licensed SE preferred (in states requiring SE) or PE/CE as applicable.



  • LEED AP or LEED Green Associate preferred.



  • NCEES Record enabling reciprocity in any state.



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Master's degree preferred.



  • Track record of major project success, including:



  • Recent projects totaling $100M+, and


  • At least one project totaling over $250M.



  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing teams of 10+ individuals and collaborating within integrated, multidisciplinary teams.



  • Experience delivering LEED Gold or Platinum projects preferred.

Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, education and location. The reasonably expected salary range for this position in Denver, Colorado is $140,000 to $180,000. Other compensation may include a discretionary bonus.
