The Portfolio Manager reports to the Senior IT Leader responsible for American Modern technical transformations and product delivery.

The Portfolio Manager drives the IT planning, maintenance, controlling, and reporting of American Modern's project portfolio in coordination with the Project Governance Committee (PGC) project prioritization process and the ePMO's business resource planning process.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the local subject matter expert of the Project Portfolio Management Tool
    • Regularly monitors to ensure internal and external resource assignments and financial forecasts are accurate
    • Ensures timesheets are approved on a timely basis to capture up-to-date actuals
    • Monitors budgets and provides view of expenses (YTD, ITD) and projections for all projects within the portfolio utilizing Planview and creating / maintaining PowerBI dashboards
  • In collaboration with ePMO Business Portfolio managers, assists and coaches the PMs to overcome project issues and obstacles
  • Oversees the IT project portfolio
    • Actively participates in project governance committee meetings and ensures any decisions made to approve, prioritize, reprioritize or cancel projects are reflected in Planview appropriately
    • Serves as the primary point of contact with the ePMO to help ensure IT is aligned with AMIG's business strategy & objectives
    • Works closely with the Enterprise Architects to develop and maintain the IT technical / application roadmaps in support of the strategic business roadmaps facilitated by the PGC and ePMO
    • Ensures both local and global projects are accounted for and prioritized in alignment with the IT Investment Board process
    • Coordinates project health checks to ensure the development methodology is being followed appropriately and deliverables are being produced with expected quality
    • Collaborates with the Head of the ePMO and Project Managers, ensuring status of projects are kept up-to-date and communicated to all stakeholders
  • Partners with financial analysts, the Group Technology's PPMs, GSI Portfolio Management, IT Risk Management & Security, and all other units within the Global IT organization
  • Ensures the Change Management Database (CMDB) and Application Inventory (LeanIX) are maintained

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong financial modeling, reporting, and quantitative skills
  • Sound understanding of business concepts for investment decision-making and working knowledge of program performance measurement and resource optimization
  • Team oriented with the ability to successfully negotiate and mediate conflicts/issues
  • Familiarity with project lifecycle, background in large enterprise-level project management
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a customer service oriented focus
  • Advanced knowledge of program and project management, Planview, and Microsoft Office tools
  • This is a hybrid role requiring regular on-site work in our Cincinnati, Ohio office (approximately 40-50%)
