Quality Lab Chemist

Huntsman is seeking a Quality Lab Chemist supporting the Advanced Materials Division located in McIntosh, AL. This position will report to the Sr Quality Manager.

Job Scope

The Quality Lab Chemist is involved deeply in providing efficient and high-quality support for Analytical & Quality Control Lab and manufacturing teams. In additional will support analytical technical development, technical service, global research, and pilot plant activities across all divisions within Huntsman Advanced Materials. The main role for this candidate is to apply chromatographic techniques and various sample preparation methods (FTIR, NIR, X-ray, DSC, etc...) to render qualitative and quantitative data for production and internal/external customers. The job position also assists other analytical specialist or Sr. specialists in more challenging assignments, in order to meet the core business needs at the McIntosh site.

In summary, as the Quality Lab Chemist, you will:
  • EHS Fully comply with Huntsman EH&S and Product Stewardship standards; always keep laboratory in good housekeeping condition and comply with PPE requirement while working in the lab.

  • Analytical Analysis Perform various QC analytical analysis (HPLC, GC, FTIR, DSC, X-ray, Particle Size, NIR, etc) together with other analytical techniques to render valuable analytical solution in a timely manner. Assisting Lab Techs/Ops and R&D for sample pretreatment and reporting functions.

  • Equipment and Lab Facilities Maintenance Ensure the testing equipment are always maintained in operational condition and keep good filing for those usage / maintenance / calibration records or documents. Regular calibrate and troubleshoot analytical instrument and equipment. Organize and manage lab analysis performed by Chemists and maintain appropriate levels of inventory for reagents, chemicals and other consumables.

  • Documentation Review, document experimental data and write analytical/technical reports on a regular base. Write and update standardized LOD's and Test Method procedures, work instructions for new capabilities. Timely record of relevant activities in LIMS.

  • Communication Ensure the proper communication among team members and leverage skills/knowledge from one another. Ensure effective communication with internal technical and business development team, colleagues from QA/QC and manufacturing/process team, establish good work relationships with various partners.

  • Performance Tracking and Visualization Lead the collection and analysis of laboratory performance metrics to identify trends and drive continuous improvement. Responsible for the regular maintenance and updating of laboratory KPI boards to ensure transparent communication of safety, quality, and productivity goals to the team and site leadership.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MS of PhD Degree in Analytical chemistry, Organic chemistry, Polymer chemistry and minimum, or BS Degree in Chemistry or other closely related majors or 10+ years in working in manufacturing environment/experience.
  • Chromatography experience is mandatory.
  • Must be fluent in English and preference in second language (German/French).
  • A good command of PC skills (MS office, Lotus Notes etc.)
  • Results driven, committed and accountable with excellent organizing and planning skills.
  • Proactive and self-motivated team player with good interpersonal communication capability.

Skills and knowledge

  • Must have a level of proficiency with Internet, Email, and Microsoft programs

  • Experience in LIMS or some type of laboratory depository system

  • Preference in Quality Module in SAP

  • Knowledgeable in ISO9001 and GMPs/GLPs

  • Statistics, Design of experiment (DOE) and data analysis

  • Communicates tactfully and effectively both verbally and in writing and maintains effective work relations with those encountered during the course of employment.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to new instructions and/or dynamic organizational priorities is critical for success.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Green Belt preferred
  • Upon acquiring sufficient skills and knowledge with regards to analytical and instrumentation, the candidate needs to understand process chemistry, applications and products which are indispensable for better data interpretation.
