JOB TITLE: Sonar Testing Technician - Software Development and Test Engineering

LOCATION: Manasses, VA

SUPPORTING: Navy's Submarine Acoustic's Systems Program Office in the Team Submarine organization.

JOB CATEGORY: Full-Time

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Must possess or be able to obtain a Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.

The salary range or hourly rate provided reflects the typical range for this position and represents just one part of Patrona Corporation's comprehensive total compensation package.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in any engineering discipline -OR- qualified combination of equivalent education and experience.
  • 3 years professional experience in engineering, technical, operations, maintenance of sonar/acoustics systems and equipment, and/or Software Development Testing/Engineering (including software bug detection/identification).
  • Demonstrated working and functional knowledge of ARCI SONAR computer systems and SONAR integrated software application programs to include Integrated Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM), Sonar Tactical Decision Aid (STDA), and various SONAR related auxiliary equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of passive and active SONAR theory and understanding of submarine acoustic array operations and limitations.
  • Experience with/on U.S. Navy Ships, Navy Programs, or Operations is a plus.
  • Prior certification or ability to become certified as a Sonar Test Director is a plus.
  • Experience in Automation Testing - programming, execution, and analysis a plus.
  • Familiarity with programs and tools such as: JIRA/Linux/TestRail/Confluence/MATLAB, etc. desired.
  • Familiarity with Submarine Sonar Systems (ARCI/APB/TI) and sonar theory a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates and executes Sonar and Acoustic Systems test events, Performance Verification Tests (PVTs), and operational demonstrations related to new and updated software/hardware builds.
  • Supports Sonar and Acoustic Systems software testing, engineering, and development.
  • Provides Test and Integration support in lab, OEM, and shipboard actual and/or simulated environments.
  • Interact with other technicians and engineers to define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret test results for products, systems, and components.
  • Identify functional problems and software bugs and recommend solutions.
  • Ensure test procedures are conducted in compliance with industry and specified standards while contributing to the development of improvements to overall testing and quality programs.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be proficient in MS Office Suite (primarily WORD and EXCEL).
  • Must have strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills.
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail, procedural compliance, and the ability to manage multiple duties simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to investigate, troubleshoot and design solutions to problems in operational software and hardware.
  • Ability to work well in an agile and collaborative work environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaborative teams, and to adjust schedule to address workload demands and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow OSHA and Navy safety requirements including the proper wearing of personal protective equipment.
