SUMMARY: The Clinical Manager of Nursing Operations reports directly to the System Director of Nursing Operations and has direct oversight of the Float Team and Nursing Supervisors. This position leads and ensures continuous nursing operation coverage, ensuring effective coordination and performance of the Float Pool and House Supervisor teams. This role ensures staffing flexibility, operational efficiency, and high-quality patient care across all inpatient units. The Clinical Manager of Nursing Operations fosters a culture of safety, responsiveness, and professional growth, in alignment with Brown University Health's mission and values. Leads and manages the Float Team and House Supervisor staff, ensuring appropriate coverage and deployment across inpatient units based on acuity and census. Collaborates with nursing leadership and staffing offices to ensure timely and effective staffing decisions that support safe patient care. Oversees the daily operations of the Float Pool, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance management. Implements and monitors patient safety initiatives, including SafetyNet reporting and follow-up, with a focus on off-shift and cross-unit coverage. Develops and refines workflows for House Supervisor rounding, staffing coordination, and escalation protocols. Ensures accurate and timely reporting of staffing metrics, float utilization, and operational performance indicators. Manages operational and capital budgets related to the Float Team and House Supervisor functions, analyzing variances and identifying cost-effective strategies. Promotes leadership development and continuing education for House Supervisors and Float Team members. Establishes and enforces policies and procedures to ensure consistent, high-quality care delivery across all shifts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality improvement initiatives and strategic planning committees. Utilizes data analytics to identify staffing trends, optimize float pool utilization, and improve patient care outcomes. Maintains open and collaborative communication with nursing units, ancillary departments, and leadership teams. Demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge and leadership in supporting patient care across diverse populations and settings. Performs additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational goals. EDUCATION: Baccalaureate in Nursing required; Master preferred (Nursing or related Health Care field acceptable). Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State in which nursing care is being delivered to include single state nursing licensure or compact licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, as appropriate for position. Specialty Certification-preferred Strong leadership skills EXPERIENCE: 3-5 years relevant experience with demonstrated progression in leadership experience. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Responsible for scheduling, training, assigning work, evaluating performance, and recommending disciplinary actions for Float Team and House Supervisor staff.
