DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This internship provides an opportunity to participate in a well-organized training program that emphasizes the analysis, preventive maintenance, and repair of construction equipment, trucks, and vehicles with gasoline or diesel engines. Interns will gain essential skills in general repair and maintenance tasks for cars and light trucks, including oil changes, tire replacements, brake inspections, exhaust system checks, suspension repairs, and air conditioning diagnostics. Additionally, participants will learn to read and understand work orders, properly handle and care for tools and equipment, and maintain a clean work environment. Safety is a priority, so interns will be trained to consistently observe safety protocols in an automotive garage. You will also familiarize yourself with procedures for handling hazardous materials and equipment. Furthermore, the internship emphasizes the importance of soft skills such as punctuality, responsibility, and accountability, along with the completion of time sheets.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • High School Internship beginning March 2026, through June 2026.
    • Senior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship would be available through the 2025-2026 school year.
    • Junior enrolled in High School 2025-2026 - The internship would go through the 2025-2026 school year, summer 2026, and 2026-2027 school year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

Internship Requirements:

  • Must be 16 years of age or older as of today's date or expect to be by the time of hire.
  • You must be a junior or senior enrolled in high school during the 2025 - 2026 school year.
Additional Requirements:
  • Letter of Recommendation: You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's
    co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar school professional indicating you meet
    your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's
    Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be
    provided to the school upon an offer and acceptance of the position.
  • Work Permit: Minors are required to submit their Work Permit upon an offer and acceptance of the position.
  • Must be a vo-tech (career and technical center) student in an approved vocational program that has provided preparation and training for the duties of this internship.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
