As part of the CTC Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Division, Test Services provides comprehensive testing, specializing in mechanical testing, metallurgical analysis, corrosion testing, and coatings and physical properties testing to our diverse set of clients. Under close supervision, the Test Services Lab Intern performs on-the-job assignments of limited scope and complexity. Tasks may vary according to skill set and Company/program/project prioritization and needs. Very limited to no direct client contact. Error in work or actions is limited to immediate project or work group, usually corrected during quality control. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and coordinate Lab operations
- Execute test plans and design of experiments as directed by management and project leads
- Use lab devices such as measurement equipment, laboratory glassware and chemicals
- Support data collection and analysis as directed by senior staff
- Provide maintenance support for test equipment
- Provide lab calibration support
- Perform testing as directed by senior staff
- Perform duties such as documentation taking during testing, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment, completing chemical inventory.
- May require working across multiple process areas (environmental, mechanical testing and metallographic test labs) as directed by senior staff.
Basic Qualifications:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree program in physical science with lab experience (Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Scient or equivalent) or Engineering Degree with lab experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of MS Office suite of products
- Detail oriented (both while completing work and efficient note taker during instructions)
- Multitasker that can take work with minimal supervision.
- Laboratory Experience (either in previous work or classroom) with chemical handling.
- Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and practices (hazards working with chemicals, waste disposal, PPE, etc)
Physical and Mental Demands
- Regularly or frequently sitting, talking, hearing, grasping, touching, walking, reaching with hands/arms and performing repetitive wrist, hand and/or finger movements.
- Sedentary to light work exerting 10 to 30 pounds of force.
- Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less, three-dimensional vision, ability to identify and distinguish colors, and ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus to review test results, read technical manuals, calibration of machines and equipment, adjust equipment, use measuring devices, microscopes, use computer, install software, read and perform routine computer maintenance and design website graphics and content.
- Frequent attention and application of principles of logical or scientific thinking and reasoning to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and/or support customer needs while dealing with interruptions and distractions.
- Apply reasoning to solve practical problems and to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
Work Environment
- Moderate noise level (i.e. computers, printers, etc.).
- Indoor, temperature controlled office environment. May work near fumes or airborne particles, with toxic or caustic chemicals or near moving mechanical parts.
