Job Description

If you miss when local media decisions were made in the market and relationships mattered more than spreadsheets, you'll feel at home at KOMU 8. We're hiring a Local Sales Manager who wants real autonomy to help local businesses grow, build authentic community connections, and design campaigns around what's happening in Mid-Missouri-not a national playbook. In this role, you'll have the freedom to make timely decisions and work directly with business owners and agencies. You'll lead a team that believes smart ideas and strong relationships still move the needle for our clients.

KOMU 8 is a full-powered NBC and CW affiliate proudly owned by the University of Missouri, serving the Columbia-Jefferson City, MO market-consistently ranked as one of the best places to live. In addition to fantastic parks, nature trails, and an amazing local restaurant scene, this is SEC country, with Mizzou athletics and SEC sports bringing big-game energy to the community year-round. Columbia has a vibrant vibe and active buzz, anchored by a thriving downtown.

KOMU 8 is an award-winning, nationally recognized organization working to share important stories and effective marketing solutions on all platforms. It is the only network affiliated television station with a dual mission of informing the public and serving as the premier training ground for television journalists with the prestigious Missouri School of Journalism. The station also supports community interests through various public service efforts throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership, Revenue Growth & Team Development

  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of marketing professionals to achieve and exceed revenue goals across all station platforms - broadcast, digital, streaming, and emerging content channels.
  • Driving both new business development and organic growth within our existing and valued advertiser accounts, ensuring the station delivers effective, result-driven marketing solutions for local businesses.
  • Develop and execute revenue strategies to ensure budgets are attained, including unique sponsorships, seller contests, sports packages, upsells, cross-platform opportunities, and capturing client success stories.
  • Providing ongoing coaching, including 4-legged field calls, and strategic support to improve seller performance and increase close rates.
  • Fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Conducting engaging weekly 1:1s focused on pipeline, strategy, market opportunities and seller growth.
  • Working closely with the GSM to forecast, budget, and monitor revenue performance.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensuring sellers follow established sales processes, including CNAs, needs-based selling, and proposal best practices.
  • Partnering with internal teams and departments to position the station's value and competitive advantages.
  • Maintaining strong knowledge of market conditions, competitive landscape, and industry trends.
Shift

M-F 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of television sales experience with a demonstrated record of consistent revenue performance.
  • Prior management or team leadership experience required; prior LSM experience in another market is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of local broadcast, digital advertising, and cross-platform marketing strategies.
  • Proven ability to recruit, motivate, and retain high-performing sales talent.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Highly organized self-starter with strong forecasting and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a results-driven environment.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $52,666 annually, plus commission (total annual compensation typically $100,000-$120,000)
