Job Summary

The Director Wire and Cable Solutions serves as the enterprise owner of Border States' wire and cable strategy. They function as the subject matter expert (SME) to support sales growth, expansion of Border States wire services and solutions, and elevating operational standards in Border States' wire and cable operations. This role operates through influence and partnership with Safety, Demand Generation, Supply Chain, Procurement, Category Management, and Services teams to develop strategy, support execution, and elevate enterprise wire and cable capabilities.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

Enterprise Strategy & Enablement

  • Leads development and execution of Border States enterprise wire and cable strategy.
  • Translates market trends, customer requirements, and operational insights into clear strategic priorities, roadmaps, and playbooks for wire and cable solutions.
  • Serves as the enterprise SME for wire and cable, providing strategic guidance and recommendations across the organization.
  • Supports and recommends prioritization of capital deployment to support wire growth and optimization, including facilities, equipment, and inventory investments.
  • Leads wire strategy and operations in Strategic Project Center (SPC) initiatives requiring capital investment in new facilities and equipment to support construction market growth. Partners with functional leaders on overall business case development, ROI model, and prioritization of SPC investments.
  • Develops and communicates wire strategy KPIs, performance insights, and analytical frameworks to support decision making and strategy success.
  • Supports Category and Vendor Relations teams in strategic wire and cable supplier partnerships, including leadership in strategic vendor relationships and performance evaluations.

Customer Success

  • Enables wire and cable sales growth through improved service capabilities, strategic programs, and enterprise alignment.
  • Acts as a strategic partner for demand generation and services teams by supporting complex wire and cable opportunities, including project scoping, solution design, and value proposition development.
  • Partners with sales and services teams to support onsite wire and cable solutions, including delivery models, staging concepts, and jobsite coordination and logistics.
  • Translates customer jobsite requirements for wire installation into service concepts that will scale across markets and geographies.
  • Acts as the connection between the customer/sales teams and distribution operations, ensuring customer insights are at the forefront of operational strategies.

Standards, Best Practices & Continuous Improvement

  • Defines and maintains enterprise standards, programs, and best practices for wire handling, cutting, paralleling, and other value-added services.
  • Partners with Supply Chain defining wire center facility design standards, requirements, and expectations to maximize safety, accuracy, and productivity in daily wire operations.
  • Partners with supply chain, safety, and learning and develop teams to define training standards, programs, and expectations for wire center employee owners.
  • Establishes recommended enterprise wire cutting equipment standards and strategies, including equipment design, and partnerships with industry leading providers of both wire equipment and maintenance.
  • Supports Human Resources and Distribution leadership on design of wire center organization structure, leveling, and training requirements.
  • Partners with supply chain and procurement teams on design of wire distribution networks and fulfillment strategies, with focus on growth, inventory optimization, and operational scalability.
  • Aligns with functional and IT leadership on recommended technology investments to support wire and cable growth, productivity, and operations.

Non-essential Functions

  • Represents the company in industry associations and councils, leading communication, change management, and adoption of industry best practices.
  • Supports Service Excellence initiatives by supporting training and mentoring opportunities with assigned staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designate.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in sales, product management, industrial distribution, technical or business degree and 5+ years of equivalent experience required.
  • 10+ years of experience in wire and cable or industry experience preferred.
  • 4+ years of supervisory experience required
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, utility, industrial or communication products and systems required.
  • Knowledge of the SAP materials management system and its reporting capabilities is preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of PC for Windows, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint), internet, email and SAP software.
