What to Expect

The Senior Technical Writer plays a key role on the Industrial Product Management team focusing on Tesla's industrial battery energy storage solutions.

The team is responsible for industrial products including Tesla Megapack and Tesla Powerpack across core segments including Utility, Commercial & Industrial, and Microgrid. We focus on maintaining as well as defining and launching new products and applications across global markets, while supporting the ongoing development of technical content and collateral for global sales, finance, engineering, and above all, Tesla customers and end-users.

As a member of the Product Management team, you will be required to support multiple projects at once, wear many hats, and constantly innovate while adapting to a fast-paced work environment. You will work with various subject matter experts across disciplines, including product managers, project engineers, software developers, and other technical writers to develop and own content on a variety of battery, power systems, and related software functionality. Content will meet the highest standards of quality for a partner audience and can include a variety of deliverables such as specifications, installation guides, design manuals, owner's manuals, graphics and videos, and API documentation, all of which put the end-user first.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated technical writing experience within a relevant industry and will also bring strong project management skills and a desire to define new processes and refine existing ones.


What You'll Do
  • Create new content and maintain a range of assets for our industrial energy storage products
  • Compose concise and targeted technical and instructional content using a variety of authoring tools
  • Prioritize and manage stakeholder input and expectations across the organization, interacting with executives, managers, engineers, and partners
  • Interview and collaborate with product managers, engineers, and other subject matter experts to gather and document information
  • Edit, revise, and transform raw content from a variety of sources
  • Interact directly with hardware and/or software products to understand how they work to create content more effectively with the end-user in mind
  • Manage document creation and continuous improvement as if the documents themselves are products, leading regular meetings with key stakeholders
  • Develop, as needed, and adhere to consistent style and formatting guidelines
  • Embrace change and growth

What You'll Bring
  • 7+ years of technical writing experience and/or related professional experience
  • Exemplary communication skills, with a high proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Agility and ability to pivot, manage conflicting priorities, drop and take up work as needed, and learn new things
  • Experience creating high-quality content in a fast-paced environment with rapid product iterations and improvements
  • Strong attention to detail; strong personal organization and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members (face-to-face, virtually, and via e-mail and chat)
  • Proficiency in structured topic-based (DITA) technical writing including experience with the Oxygen XML editor or equivalent authoring tool
  • Advanced experience with the Microsoft suite and with Adobe software
  • Experience with graphic editing and rendering tools, using tracking and productivity tools such as Atlassian JIRA and Confluence
  • Deep passion for changing the way we use energy on the electric grid

    Expected Compensation
    $84,000 - $156,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
