Job Summary Scope of Work The clinical nurse, under the ANA scope of practice utilizes the framework of the nursing process to provide professional nursing care by incorporating patient-family centered care principles. The Clinical Nurse provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nursing and Operational Leadership according to policies and procedures within an ambulatory setting. A radiation oncology nurse is a registered nurse who supports cancer patients before, during, and after radiation treatment. They provide essential care by managing treatment side effects (such as skin reactions and fatigue), educating patients, offering emotional support, and coordinating care with the oncology team. Key Responsibilities and Duties: Patient Education: Explaining treatment procedures, potential side effects, and self-care strategies to patients and families. Assessment & Symptom Management: Monitoring patients weekly or more frequently for physical/emotional changes, skin reactions, and fatigue, and administering medications or treatments to manage these issues. Treatment Coordination: Assisting with simulation/planning, coordinating appointments, and collaborating with radiation therapists and oncologists. Direct Patient Care: Conducting assessments, reviewing treatment plans, and assisting with procedures. Psychosocial Support: Offering emotional support to patients and families throughout the cancer journey. Radiation oncology nurses are vital for ensuring patient safety and continuity of care.
