Operations Lead (Transload, Inventory, Rail Operations & Switching) Hourly Pay Range: $25-$30/hour DOE Position Summary: The main duty of the Operations Lead is managing transload operations, including the safe and efficient transfer of bulk materials, oversight of inventory activities, and support of railcar movement and switching operations. This position ensures compliance with all safety standards, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements while leading, training, and directing onsite personnel. The Operations Lead plays a key role in maintaining smooth day-to-day terminal operations and delivering high-quality service to customers. Primary Responsibilities Transload Operations Management
- Lead and manage transloading activities for bulk liquid and dry materials.
- Oversee the operation of hoses, pumps, conveyors, stair systems, and other transload equipment.
- Ensure safe loading/unloading from railcars into trucks.
- Conduct and verify equipment and vehicle inspections before and after loading.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, JSAs, and all safety procedures, including fall protection.
- Provide hands-on support with connections, disconnections, equipment positioning, and troubleshooting.
Inventory, Material Handling & Loading
- Oversee inbound/outbound inventory receiving, documentation, and verification.
- Review and complete damage reports for products, pallets, crates, or materials.
- Safely stage, prepare, and load products for truck or rail transport.
- Operate and guide staff in operating forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Ensure daily equipment inspections and proper reporting of maintenance issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Rail Operations & Switching Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with all train orders, signals, rules, and FRA regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, yardmasters, engineers, and train crews.
- Assist with coupling/uncoupling, switching, lining tracks, and minor railcar repairs (e.g., knuckles, air hoses).
- Conduct railcar inspections and ensure readiness prior to movement.
- Safely ascend/descend railcars and ladders; apply and release handbrakes.
- Maintain situational awareness and report hazards or suspicious activity.
- Interpret hand signals, color signals, radio instructions, and visual indicators.
- Provide support for basic locomotive operations and servicing as needed.
Leadership & Administrative Duties
- Prepare daily operations reports and assist with site documentation.
- Provide daily direction to employees in the absence of the Operations Manager.
- Conduct job and safety briefings; reinforce safety expectations and compliance.
- Assist in coordinating staffing, workflow, and site operations.
- Train, mentor, and support transload and rail personnel.
- Ensure high-quality service and communication with customers onsite.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Supervisory Skills
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Basic math and data entry/computer skills.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Ability to learn and lead transload and railcar equipment operations.
- Willingness to travel to other terminals if needed.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work with hazardous liquids and dry bulk materials.
- Must be able to:
- Climb railcars, ladders, and work at heights above 4 ft
- Walk 1-2 miles per shift
- Lift and carry 50 lbs
- Wear a respirator and meet respiratory program requirements
