Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking a 1st Shift, Quality Tech IV, NDT II for our City of Industry, California location.

Our products are used nose to tail on commercial and military aircraft, as well as on jet engines, industrial gas turbines, automobiles, commercial transportation vehicles, wind turbines, solar power systems, and construction and industrial equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Works under minimal supervision
* Must achieve level II company issued certification
* Inspects precision metal fasteners and raw material samples for indications of discontinuities in machining and/or material by applying an oxide suspension and fluorescent penetrant and magnetic particle inspection solutions to fasteners and samples and examines them under black light
* Tests inspection equipment and materials to maintain quality control of inspection process
* Sets-up and calibrates NDT equipment
* Verifies that magnetic inspection equipment and materials are in proper condition and meet established standards by conducting various control tests.
* Obtains specific inspection assignments and determines work priorities by reading shop traveler cards on pans of fasteners located in backlog area and identifying orders that are ready for inspection.
* Verifies that orders of fasteners and shop traveler cards match by reading head markings of fasteners and comparing against part numbers of shop traveler cards.
* Obtains inspection criteria by referring to government and customer standards and specifications books. Prepares inspection record for each order.
* Verifies that samples are free of oil, and degreases samples as required by dipping pans into vapor degreaser.
* Prepares sample fasteners and samples of raw materials designated for magnetic inspection by adjusting chuck of magnaflux machine to hold samples and adjusts amps of magnaflux machine according to size configuration of samples. Actuates flow of ferrous oxide suspension solution to cover samples; places samples in magnaflux machine and "shoots" to magnetize.
* Prepares sample fasteners and samples of raw material for fluorescent penetrant inspection by degreasing, etching or otherwise cleaning parts as required; dips samples into fluorescent penetrant solution, sets aside to drain for specified time, then rinses in water for further removal of excess penetrant solution; verifies removal of excess penetrant solution by inspecting with black light; adjusts drying oven heat to specified temperature and places samples in oven for specified time; removes samples from oven, immerses into dry developer powder to develop residual penetrant.
* Inspects samples under black light to detect defects such as discontinuity of seams, thread laps, non-metallic and metallic inclusions, piping, grinding checks, cracks, etc.
* Submits samples of defective parts to lab for evaluation of depths of discontinuity.
* Segregates defective samples and places in separate box. Writes rejection slip, records inspection data in log. Pulls orders of defective fasteners from pallet, and forwards rejection slip to authorized personnel for disposition of defective fasteners.
* Demagnetizes acceptable samples (if magnetized), dips into solvent to remove residual inspection solution, dips into rust preventive, and returns to original pan. Stamps, signs and dates shop traveler card, and records inspection data in log, and moves pans of inspected parts to holding area.
* Submits samples of raw material to laboratory for further inspection and testing as required; may explain and demonstrate inspection procedures to customer representatives; may provide instruction or guidance to less experienced personnel assigned to help with inspection; may be required to perform dimensional inspections or work of other jobs at the same or a lower pay grade.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
* NDT Level II Certification or 400 hours of Level I experience.
* Minimum of 3 years of Quality NDT experience
* Employee must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
* This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • experience with FPI Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection preferred
