Job Title: Senior Accountant
Location:Bronx, 4 days/week on-site
Salary: $110,000 - $120,000 (BOE)

JOB PURPOSE

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the organization's core accounting operations. This position requires a disciplined and consistent professional who thrives in a hands-on, manual environment where problem-solving and independent ownership are essential. The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing journal entries, account reconciliations, maintaining fixed asset and prepaid schedules, balance sheet reconciliations, payroll support, and cost allocations-contributing significantly to the accuracy and efficiency of daily accounting activities and the monthly close process.

In addition to traditional accounting responsibilities, this role has a strong focus on systems, process improvement, and automation. The ideal candidate enjoys rolling up their sleeves in a transactional environment while also thinking strategically about how to optimize manual processes, fully leverage ERP modules, and test and implement new technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.

RESPONSIBILITIES General Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, inventory, and department/event allocations.

  • Assist with the month-end close and preparation of internal financial statements, prepaid schedules, and fixed asset schedules.

  • Publish monthly commission statements.

  • Perform weekly bank reconciliations and monthly balance sheet reconciliations.

  • Maintain detailed general ledger records and supporting documentation.

  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.

Accounts Receivable & Collections
  • Support Accounts Receivable, including monitoring outstanding balances and assisting with collections follow-up.

  • Coordinate with Sales and Events teams to ensure proper billing and revenue recognition.

Cross-Functional Support
  • Support the Controller in ongoing financial initiatives, audits, and special projects.

  • Be cross-trained in Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions to provide backup coverage when needed.

  • Participate in inventory management and reconciliation processes alongside warehouse and kitchen teams.

Compliance & Process Improvement
  • Assist in preparing schedules and documentation for internal and external audits.

  • Help maintain internal controls, ensuring compliance with company policies and GAAP.

  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement and system enhancements in a still-manual but evolving environment.

Other duties may be required as determined by the needs of the operation.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CPA-track preferred.

  • 4+ years of accounting experience, with a preference for hospitality, catering, food service, or related industries.

  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and allocations.

  • Proficient in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and familiar with accounting platforms such as Acumatica, QuickBooks, Ottimate, Concur, or similar systems.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; comfortable collaborating cross-functionally.

  • Self-motivated, curious, reliable, and able to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities with discipline and consistency.
