Job Summary

The Organizational Development Manager is a key member of the Dean's executive staff. Working side by side with the Vice Dean of Administration and Finance, and Chief Operating Officer, the Organizational Development Manager is a highly influential and visible role in this fast paced and highly complex environment.

The incumbent is responsible for centrally coordinating the Vice Dean's activities (operations and planning) and for ensuring the timely flow of information to and from the Dean's Office. They work with the Vice Dean and other senior administrative leaders to develop the Vice Dean's strategic agenda. They ensure that key projects have the resources needed to be successful. They initiate, lead and/or monitor projects to successful completion. By assisting in allocating the Vice Dean's time efficiently to the highest-priority projects, the Organizational Development Manager maximizes the Vice Dean's productivity and impact. They will frequently attend meetings with the Vice Dean, and will also represent the Vice Dean in meetings and/or committees, as needed.


This role engages directly with senior leaders across the School and works towards aligning execution to goals, removing roadblocks, performing analysis, and gathering research to facilitate faster decision making, and ensuring communication and reporting are happening smoothly and consistently. Interacting across multiple functional areas, this individual's role is to significantly increase interunit efficiencies. The Organizational Development Manager will provide oversight and guidance to high priority initiatives and will lead key strategic cross-functional and transformational projects.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $129,600 - $303,800 (Annual Rate).

We provide comprehensive oral health care services with over 120,000 patient visits per year. UCSF Dental Center

UCSF Dental Center is a cohesive entity within the structure of UCSF's School of Dentistry that oversees and operates all clinical activities in the dental school. Its primary goal is to provide outstanding, seamless, cutting-edge patient-centered care. The Dental Center also aims to provide state of the art clinical experiences and education to students; deliver cost-effective dental health care; and generate resources for reinvestment in the School of Dentistry's educational, clinical and scholarship missions. UCSF Dental Center's primary services include all advanced dental specialty programs, and the general dentistry and specialty faculty practices. A majority of the Dental Center's clinical facilities are located at the Parnassus Campus, with an additional presence at Mission Bay and the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and five to ten (5 to 10) years of directly related experience.
  • Broad knowledge of the legal constraints and opportunities for higher education in the State of California and through Federal programs and regulations.
  • Broad knowledge of the organizational environment of higher education and large research universities to understand client priorities, issues, motivations and constraints.
  • Broad knowledge of organizational processes, protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrated consulting, relationship building and strategic thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to establish mission and goals at the macro-level; to lead staff to develop goals in alignment with mission.
  • Proven leadership abilities to establish department goals, and motivate and influence others to achieve.
  • Broad knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques; human resources and risk management planning; accounting and payroll.

  • Advanced degree preferred.
